Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Ubud. It is run by Sidemen tour guide, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
The Tegallalang terraces are twenty minutes north of Ubud on the road to Kintamani, and they are working paddies fed by the subak irrigation system that UNESCO listed in 2012. Before about 8:30 in the morning the valley belongs to the farmers, the paddies are still wet from the night, and it is cool enough to walk down through the terraces and up the far side. By ten the coaches from the south arrive and the road above the terraces becomes a line of cafes, swings and photo platforms. There is a small entry fee at the viewpoint, and farmers along the paths through the fields ask for a few thousand rupiah to cross their land, which is normal. The swings are separate businesses with their own prices.
The price covers Guided walking tour through Sidemen's rice paddies, Insight into local agriculture and irrigation systems and Opportunity to see and photograph stunning rice field views. It does not cover Transportation to and from Sidemen, Meals and drinks, Personal expenses and Gratuities are not included, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Traveler Reviews
This day trip was by far our best, we started with a trekking tour in the rice field which was amazing. The guide told us a lot about the nature and trees around here as well as the rice field farming. It felt like an adventure in the jungle so don’t forget good shoes. After this 1,5h hour trekking, we went for lunch at Juni’s house which was so lovely, we had wonderful talks with Juni about life in Bali, her family story, we felt truly connected to their culture and way of life. Finally, we had the delicious food cooked by them before heading back. Multiple dishes which all tasted wonderful.
great tour. seen allot of different things. the guide was great, she told us allot of different things about the crops and fruits along the way!!
Sidemen is a beautiful, simple, untouched place that's more rural rather than built up. This tour gives you a perfect preview of that natural beauty where you are guided through local fields, villages and farms. We saw some beautiful views and having completed in 1.5hrs, we still had the rest of the day to explore. Highly recommend doing if you're in Sidemen. Our guide Yuli was a lovely lady
We had a fantastic tour in Sidemen with Kadek. He shared great insights into the Balinese countryside, rice fields, and local agriculture, taking us beyond the more touristic side of Bali. It felt authentic and very informative. We were travelling with our 6 year old, and Kadek was very attentive, making sure he was comfortable and enjoying the two hour walk. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a genuine and meaningful experience.
It was so beautiful and our guide Kadek was very knowledgeable and kind. We loved our rice terrace and local village walk. Thank you!!
It was amazing ! Juni was very kind, knowledgeable and patient. She explained a lot of things about the area and the terraces. It was a great experience !
We had a fabulous tour with Juni and absolutely loved it. Juni not only gave us great insights into the rice fields, she also talked about life in the community as well. A great eye opener 🥰
It was very beautiful! Sinta showed us around and she answered to all our curiosities! Totally recommend this tour! 🙏🏻
Juni is such a kind girl and she knows everything about the plantation and the differents seasons. She’ll guido through the plantation fields and show you the process. You can ask her about the Balinese culture also. Better with pants and safe shoes Really nice morning walk
Kadek is not only a great guy but is a local who loves his village & embraces that sense of community. It is a peaceful stroll though rice fields & vegetable patches, in the middle of nowhere a guy materializes selling coconuts! Of course that night at D’Padi restaurant Kadek pops up in the bamboo orchestra playing the flute! Highly recommend! 😎👍
Kadek was an amazing guide - incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and kind. I learned so much about the rice terraces and life in Bali. He even messaged me ahead of time to ask what version of the tour I’d like based on my interests. I had injured myself just before the tour started, but he quickly adapted, taking me through parts of the terraces by scooter and even finding a beautiful place for me to sit and ice while he explained what I was seeing. He truly went above and beyond, driving me to the hospital afterward, helping me around in a wheelchair, and staying with me during my exam. I c
We were staying in Ubud and decided to go for a hike in Sidemen. We really enjoyed the hike with our great host Kadek, we had a good chat en he made some memorable pictures. Sidemen was absolutely beautiful, especially with Kadek, who was able to tell a lot about the community and nature in the area.
