Full description
This is a 3-hour experience in Ubud. It is run by Five Arts Studio, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Ubud is the centre of Bali's craft villages: Celuk for silver and gold work, Mas for woodcarving, Batuan for its style of painting, and Batubulan for stone. Craft classes take the same skills into a workshop with an instructor and take three to four hours, and you leave with the piece you made. Silver classes work in sterling silver with hand tools, saws and a torch; carving classes work in soft hibiscus or jackfruit wood; batik uses hot wax and dye on cotton and needs time to dry. The classes are hands-on rather than demonstrations, so wear something that can take dye or wax.

Traveler Reviews
I have been travelling south east asia for a month and this has been my favourite activity so far! The whole experience from start to finish was fascinating. The artists were welcoming and friendly. They explained everything clearly and were passionate about the craft. They also had a lot of patience with helping as we picked quite intricate designs! (I would suggest if you are a complete beginner maybe try an easier design). They showed us techniques to use when painting to blend colours on the fabric and to make different designs. They provided refreshments and very peaceful music that added
Dika and Cuk were very kind with us. We did the 3 hour Batik experience and it was really amazing. Beautiful place, very quiet, only another couple and us. We had their help during the hole time. They gave us water, tea and biscuits also! 100% recommend!
Brilliant experience, the guides were very friendly and helpful throughout!
This batik workshop was very exciting. The teachers were very kind to my children. Thank you so much!
The best batik workshop in Bali yet! The artists were patient and super helpful in taking us through each step in this artistic process. We couldn’t believe how incredible our finished products looked. The gallery gift shop was also a highlight: we were able to take home some stunning Balinese paintings created by their artists. 10/10.
It was a wonderful way to spend a few hours in Ubud. Beautiful open-air but shaded studio. I learned a lot and created a lovely souvenir.
Absolutely fantastic! The best batik class I have done in Bali!
Ajus was our guide/teacher and was very informative about the process and traditions. He was very patient and knowledgeable, and his colleagues were amazing artists. My friend and I are both artists so we valued the process and were both happy with our results. Rosie is also a great little doggo who enjoyed a bit of a love and a bit of biscuit.
We had a lovely time making our sarongs. The team were highly skilled and lovely. Could not recommend enough!
This batik painting class was bliss! I honestly want to do it again tomorrow. The teacher started by sharing the history of batik. Then you pick a design that they offer (many choices) or you can create your own design. after you draw your design you begin the waxing process and then paint.
I liked learning about the history of Batik in Indonesia and its transit from elsewhere. The instructor Dika, was very patient with us and encouraged us to slow down and relax into the activity. I loved learning how to sombre the colours and also how to use the same dyes to make different shades of the colour.
