This is a 3-hour experience in Ubud. It is run by Balinese Local activities, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Balinese cooking classes usually begin at a morning market to buy the ingredients, then move to a family compound or a purpose-built kitchen. The base of most dishes is base genep, a spice paste of shallots, garlic, galangal, turmeric, ginger, chillies, candlenut and shrimp paste pounded together, and from it come sate lilit (minced meat on lemongrass sticks), lawar (a chopped salad with coconut and blood in the traditional version), pepes (fish steamed in banana leaf) and the yellow rice, nasi kuning. Classes run three to four hours, you eat what you make at the end, and vegetarian versions are standard on request.
The price covers Pick up & drop off in Ubud area, Mineral water, All cooking equipment, Food tasting and Buffet lunch. It does not cover Hotels outside the Ubud center area and Alcoholic drinks, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Balinese Local activities before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Wir hatten viel Spaß beim Kochen der Balinesischen Gerichte! Alles war gut organisiert, hygienisch und es wurden frische Produkte verwendet. Das ganze Team war sehr nett. Besonders interessant fanden wir den Marktbesuch mit Putu. Hier hätten wir gern noch etwas mehr Zeit verbracht. We had a lot of fun cooking the Balinese dishes! Everything was well organized, hygienic, and fresh ingredients were used. The whole team was very friendly. We particularly enjoyed the market visit with Putu. We would have liked to spend a little more time there.
We begonnen met een interessante rondleiding over een lokale markt. We leerden over de gang van zaken en welke ingrediënten er gebruikt worden. Daarna stopten we nog even bij een rijstveld, waar we ook wat uitleg kregen over het oogsten van de rijst. Toen was het tijd voor de kookcursus! Meerdere mensen hielpen ons met het klaarzetten, en onder uitleg gingen we zelf aan de slag met het bereiden van de gerechten. Nadat we alle gerechten hadden gemaakt mochten we het zelf proeven en opeten!
Wir hatten einen Kochkurs am Vormittag inklusive Marktbesuch gebucht – und waren rundum begeistert! Schon die Führung über den Markt war ein echtes Highlight. Man konnte viele verschiedene Produkte kennenlernen und vor allem auch einiges probieren. Die Führung war interessant, abwechslungsreich und hat einen tollen Einblick in die regionalen Zutaten und Spezialitäten gegeben. Der anschließende Kochkurs war einfach erstklassig. Alles wurde verständlich und Schritt für Schritt erklärt, sodass man jederzeit gut folgen konnte. Dabei kam der Spaß überhaupt nicht zu kurz – die Atmosphäre war locker

Fantastic cooking class which was excellent value for money. We cooked many delicious dishes and were very well advised and assisted by Putu, she was a powerhouse and did a fantastic job in guiding us through the class. We would highly recommend this event.
it was awesome. our guide came picked us up at the villa even if slightly outside the Ubud area, and then took us to the market, showed us and gave us a few things to try. Then we had a super fun and tasty lunch and cooking class. 9 courses...everything was delicious and everyone so kind.
Putu was just amazing. She explained all the spices and how to prepare the dishes in a very easy way. It was super fun and the food was delicious. Not to mention the view from the balcony. Totally recommend

Der Kochkurs selbst war wirklich toll. Die Lehrer dort waren hervorragend und haben sich viel Mühe gegeben. Das Essen war lecker und wir haben viel gelernt. Der Fahrer, der uns abgeholt hat, war mittelmäßig motiviert. Der Besuch des Reisfeldes bestand darin, auf der Straße vor einem abgeernteten Feld zu stehen und seinen sehr knappen Ausführungen zu folgen. Der Marktbesuch war toll.
