This is a 6-hour experience from Hakone, built around Train, Cable car and Bus/coach. It is run by Japan Guide Agency, JGA Inc., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hakone is the hot-spring resort in the mountains 90 minutes south-west of Tokyo, inside the caldera of an old volcano. The standard loop is the Hakone Ropeway over the Owakudani sulphur vents, where eggs are boiled black in the springs, a boat across Lake Ashi past the red torii of Hakone Shrine, and, on a clear day, Fuji over the lake. Onsen bathing follows the usual rules: wash before entering, no swimwear, and many baths still refuse tattoos or ask for a cover. The Hakone Free Pass covers the trains, cable car, ropeway and boat; the ropeway closes in high wind and when volcanic gas rises, which happens a few days a year.

We had an awesome day with Hiro-san. He met us as planned with a sign. We saw all the sites. He had all the transportation arranged. The area is beautiful! Hiro-san was so personable. Not only did he tell us about the area but answered many questions we had about Japanese life. Also, he took us to a delicious restaurant where we could see them making their own soba noodles. Thank you Hiro!

We had a wonderful tour with Yoshei. A very informative guide and we navigated seven different types of transportation to see all the beautiful sites of Hakone. He was extremely kind and certainly knew the region well. Arrange for us to have a wonderful authentic Japanese lunch. I would definitely recommend a tour in Hakone as there are many different sites all connected with the Hakone pass, but the average tourist would have a difficult time navigating the labyrinth of transportation.

My guide Yumi was amazing! she picked me and dropped me at my hotel. She prepared a tour plan with activities based on themes I provided her. We also stopped for lunch at a good restaurant on our way that she suggeated. Yumi was very knowledgeable about the history, culture and Japanese traditions. We were able to go through the whole program. Even, were there was a bus delay, she managed to find an alternative toute to bring back to my hotel. I would recommend her.

Nobody can promise it. Fuji is clear on roughly a third of days, most often on winter mornings, and from June to September it is in cloud more often than not. The tour runs regardless and the lakes, the pagoda and the ropeway are planned to be worth the day without the summit. There is no refund for cloud.
