Full description

This is a 8-hour experience in Hakone, built around Black cab, Sukumo River and Hatajuku. It is run by Coconuts Hike Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hakone is the hot-spring resort in the mountains 90 minutes south-west of Tokyo, inside the caldera of an old volcano. The standard loop is the Hakone Ropeway over the Owakudani sulphur vents, where eggs are boiled black in the springs, a boat across Lake Ashi past the red torii of Hakone Shrine, and, on a clear day, Fuji over the lake. Onsen bathing follows the usual rules: wash before entering, no swimwear, and many baths still refuse tattoos or ask for a cover. The Hakone Free Pass covers the trains, cable car, ropeway and boat; the ropeway closes in high wind and when volcanic gas rises, which happens a few days a year.

The price covers National certified guide with wilderness advanced first-aid, Bus and shared-taxi transportation between tour sites, One cup of amazake and Lunch set. It does not cover Transportation to the meeting point and from the ending, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Admission or activity fees not specified in the itinerary and Additional drinks and snacks other than the included, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Hakone-Yumoto Station, Yumoto, Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa 250-0311, Japan. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Coconuts Hike Japan before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Great hike, nature and history September 2024 A really good experience on the old Taikado route. Had a good hike with a good tour guide, he shows the best spots. Aki explains also the history and culture of Japan, so you feel the real experience of the country. PS he also makes great pictures of you๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜Š

LOVED everything about this tour! The guide had grown up locally and knew to avoid tourist traps. He took us to a 5th generation woodcraft workshop and a 13th generation teahouse where we met the owner. Learned how to pray in a temple. Practiced japanese. Had a pic nic in a beautiful battlefield. He also took so many pictures of us which is great as we usually forget. Hours of hiking too. 100% recommended!

Aki was really lovely. It was a our first trip to Japan and we had lovely conversations about the similarities and differences between our cultures. After realising I was a nature lover he tailored the tour to focus on native trees. would definitely recommend!

It was an incredible experience! Akihiro was friendly, knowledgeable, and great company for the day. I was glad to have this tour which featured a day in nature and a lot of Japanese history, something different from time spent in the bigger cities. It was a real highlight of my trip to Japan.

We had a great tour with Akihiro. He showed us many hidden corners of the Hachiri trail and provided interesting stories and information about the history and site. In addition to exciting trails, there were opportunities to take a break, such as in a historic teahouse or a coffee break with a view of Mount Fuji. Akihiro is a great host and guide. Next to our guide we had a great group, so the whole day was a lot of fun.

A truly wonderful experience! Well planned day and the perfect combination of hiking and history. Our guide was informative, extremely thoughtful, kind (carried my motherโ€™s bag for her) and very flexible in changing plans due to our groupโ€™s preferred slower pace. Stopped at a local teahouse which was special. Additionally the pre trip communication was very clear and flawless Highly recommend!

The price does not cover transportation to the meeting point and from the ending point, hotel pickup and drop-off, admission or activity fees not specified in the itinerary and additional drinks and snacks other than the included amazake and lunch set. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Nobody can promise it. Fuji is clear on roughly a third of days, most often on winter mornings, and from June to September it is in cloud more often than not. The tour runs regardless and the lakes, the pagoda and the ropeway are planned to be worth the day without the summit. There is no refund for cloud.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice. Once it is confirmed you get the meeting point, the time and a contact number for the day. If the operator cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September โ€” exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter โ€” the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop โ€” Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses โ€” for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage โ€” not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen โ€” a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller โ€” the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
