Morning Hike with Tea Ceremony
Full description
Almost nobody looks down on Hiroshima, which is odd, because the mountain is directly behind the station.
This three-hour morning walk climbs Futaba, starting from Hiroshima Station and going first through Hiroshima Toshogu Shrine, which holds important cultural assets and sits at the foot of the hill. From there the route runs up through Kinko Inari Shrine, whose torii climb the slope in the manner of Fushimi Inari but without any of the crowd.
The climb itself is about twenty-five minutes β real but not demanding β and it ends at the Peace Pagoda, from where you can see the city laid out below, the Seto Inland Sea beyond it, and Miyajima on the horizon. Seeing Hiroshima whole, from above, is a different experience from walking through the Peace Park at ground level, and doing it in the morning before the day's heavier sights is a deliberate choice.
At the top comes nodate β the open-air tea ceremony. Tea outdoors is a real tradition rather than an improvisation, historically done at cherry blossom viewings and on journeys, and having matcha whisked for you on a mountainside with that view is the reason to book this rather than a temple tea room.
The walk also includes forest bathing β shinrin-yoku, which in practice means being asked to stop and pay attention rather than keep moving.
Groups cap at six and guiding is in Japanese, which works for a walk. Breakfast is available on one option. Hotel pickup is not included; you meet on the second floor deck at Hiroshima Station.

Stephanie created a very nice experience for us. She is so kind, funny and thoughtful. She shared many interesting details about the shrines we passed, how to show respect to the gods and about Hiroshimas past. The tea ceremony was really special, although the forest bathing was to me, personally (and surprisingly), the best part. It was a little bit (too) expensive, but I totally recommend this activity!
Stephanie was a super friendly, informative and fun guide, making this a great experience. It was very special to spend time in nature away from the crowds, and also to gain a different perspective on Hiroshima. The climb took in a number of shrines through beautiful woodland, and it was great to appreciate the volunteer work that our guide and others undertake to look after the area. The forest bathing and tea ceremony were magical experiences - I'd totally recommend doing this, I loved it! π
everything was amazing . the guide naomi was so nice, adorable and everything she said was really interesting. we did itfor the first time, she showed us everything and before the tea ceremony, in the middle of the forest . relaxation with the nature and was incredible, really calm and relaxing. the tea ceremony was also really good and nice . honestly, we loved everything
Nana, my guide was very implicated and had prepared history of Mont Futaba (close to Hiroshima station. We climbed 500 steps and then rested fot the ceremony tea she prepared in the rules of art. She even let me master the ceremony tea. Of course, at this high, no kimono like in a private room. Both ceremony are different : our was casual but with the sunny view on Hiroshima.
An amazing experience! Michiyo was so lovely, a great guide. I would 100% recommend this.
Naomi met us at arranged time Local guide with obvious passion and knowledge of area Time spent at shrines and clear expiations with photos Fun Forest bathing which we got involved in happily Tea ceremony was so beautiful and Naomi involved out daughter to experience making the matcha tea correctly Plenty of time taken for photos We were guided to our chosen restaurant for lunch after Photos forwarded quickly Sting reenactment at Shrine - just great!
The guide was so sweet and nice! I learned so much during the tour. The hike was super nice with a great view from the top. My highlight was the outdoor tea ceremony - loved it!
The tour was really nice! Learned more about Shinto, did some unique yoga and loved the modern way of the tea ceremony. The guide told us interesting stuff about the history of the place and the view on the top was amazing.
