Hiroshima is more than the events of one August morning, and this private tour is built to show you both sides of the city: the peace memorials that the world knows, and the castle, garden and everyday neighborhoods that most visitors never make time for. Your Japanese local guide, from a company whose guides have deep personal and family ties to the city, collects you from any of fourteen central pickup points. The morning begins with a full guided hour in the Peace Memorial Museum, where having a local interpreter beside you transforms the exhibits of artifacts and survivor testimony. From there you walk the Peace Memorial Park to the Atomic Bomb Dome, hearing not textbook history but family stories, what grandparents saw, how neighborhoods rebuilt, how the city talks about that day among itself. Then the tour deliberately changes register. A short walk brings you to Hiroshima Castle, the reconstructed five-story keep of the feudal lords who founded the city, its moat and grounds a reminder that Hiroshima had four centuries of history before 1945. The day closes with a full unhurried hour in Shukkei-en, the exquisite 1620s landscape garden whose name means shrunken scenery, where miniature mountains, bridges and tea pavilions ring a central pond. The garden was itself destroyed in the bombing and replanted, which your guide will tell you about as you walk its circuit path; survivors sheltered here among the burned trees. Yuka was an excellent guide! She brought us around the city and even changed the itinerary last minute to better suit our afternoon plans and interests. She brought us to a small museum that we would have never found otherwise and which ended up being a real highlight for us as it helped make the tragedy of the atomic bomb more real. Can’t recommend this tour more highly—it’s really a must! And Yuka is a star!

Masa was amazing!!! We had a private guide in Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima so I can compare and tell you that Masa in Hiroshima was by far the best. English in a really good level she was flexible in sharing overall knoweldge about the city, A-bomb, amazing stories since she is a second generation survivors and even details on the Japanese alphabet. She manage to squize in everything (Museum,park,fire,childrens memorial,castle,gardens). For anyone reading this review I'm begging you to not miss the gardens. Masa made a daytrip more than a fun activity into an awesome memory!

We had a great tour with Masa-san in Hiroshima. She shared a clear and thoughtful explanation of the city’s history and the atomic bombing. She also told us about her own family’s experience as second-generation survivors, which made the visit especially meaningful. She also provided us with very interesting side facts about japanese culture and History. Masa-san was friendly and easy to talk to. We can warmly recommend her as a guide 1000%!
