Full description

This is a 4-hour experience from Hiroshima, built around Ferry, View point and Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street. It is run by AIDO, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Miyajima, properly Itsukushima, is the island in Hiroshima Bay whose shrine stands on stilts over the water with its great torii gate in the sea, rebuilt in 1875 and restored in 2022. The gate is walked to at low tide and floats at high tide, and the tide table decides what you see; both are worth it. Deer roam the village, the ropeway climbs Mount Misen for the view over the Inland Sea, and the local foods are grilled oysters and momiji manju maple cakes. From Hiroshima it is a tram or train to Miyajimaguchi and a ten-minute ferry, about 40 minutes in all, or a direct boat from the Peace Park.

The price covers English-speaking guide, Shrine tickets, Momiji manju maple-leaf cake tasting and Photo service. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

AIDO sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with AIDO before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

The tour with Kaku was great! We went to see different Torii gates and the famous one of Miyajima. Including visiting the shrine Itsukushima jinja and Daishoin temple. We also had time to go through the shopping district where my son tried fresh grilled oyster for the first time and the local momiji cake! Highly recommended!

Very nice, we started early and beat the crowds on the ferry going over. Eddie, our English-speaking guide, was excellent at arranging our transport and explaining many details we would not have understood had we gone by ourselves.

This was soooo nice! It was good to have our guide meet us to take the ferry (although it was super easy). She took us to a smaller shrine where there aren’t tourists, so it was nice to visit. Was exciting to see all the deer. She made she we had her recommended oysters and they were fantastic. Pey was amazing and had good background on everything and showed us her personal favorite spots!

Kaku was an incredible guide!!! He was very friendly and knew all of the hidden gems on Miyajima Island, including the best spots to take pictures and see the roaming deer. The attention to detail and invitation to participate in prayer was great and we even managed to see a wedding! Overall an amazing tour. Would highly recommend!

Late March to early April for cherry blossom (2026 full bloom landed around March 29-31), or October-November for autumn color and oyster season. August 6 brings the Peace Memorial Ceremony — moving, but the city is at its most crowded. See our best time to visit Hiroshima guide.
The Hiroden streetcar (flat ¥240) covers most sights, and the meipuru-pu loop bus is free with a JR Pass. Miyajima is a ¥200 ferry ride plus the ¥100 visitor tax. Full fares and passes in getting around Hiroshima.
Two days is the sweet spot: day one for the Peace Memorial Park, Museum and city, day two for Miyajima Island. Our 2-day Hiroshima itinerary maps it hour by hour.
Plan 2-3 hours for the park and museum together — the museum is just ¥200 and opens from 7:30 AM. Etiquette, monuments, and timing tips are in our Peace Memorial Park guide.
The torii appears to float at tide levels above ~250cm, and you can walk out to its base below ~100cm — a single day often offers both. Check tide tables before you go; the full trick is in our Miyajima Island guide.
Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki — layered, not mixed like Osaka's, with soba inside — plus winter oysters and momiji manju on Miyajima. Okonomimura's 24 stalls are the classic first stop. See the Hiroshima food guide.
Miyajima is the essential one; beyond it, Iwakuni's Kintai Bridge and Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) are both doable by train. Honest rankings and logistics in our Hiroshima day trips guide.
