Full description

This is a 5-hour experience from Hiroshima, built around Train, Ferry and Miyajima. It is run by Local Gem Tour Hiroshima, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park sits on the ground beneath the point where the bomb detonated at 8:15 on 6 August 1945. The A-Bomb Dome, the skeleton of the industrial promotion hall, was left as it stood; the Peace Memorial Museum reopened in 2019 after a redesign and takes about two hours, and is not for young children. The Children's Peace Monument is hung with paper cranes sent from around the world. Hiroshima's own food is okonomiyaki layered with noodles, eaten at counters in Okonomimura. Miyajima is 40 minutes away and most visitors combine the two in one day.

Pickup is offered from Crowne Plaza - ANA Hiroshima, an IHG Hotel, THE KNOT HIROSHIMA, Hilton Hiroshima, Hotel Granvia Hiroshima and HOTEL INTERGATE Hiroshima; the exact spot and time are agreed with Local Gem Tour Hiroshima once the booking is confirmed, and the option you choose sets whether transport is included.

The whole experience was incredible, Masa was so kind, full of knowledge and shared stories of her hometown with so much passion and love. She made our family feel so welcomed and shared knowledge that wouldn’t pick up if you were exploring just yourself. Highly recommend.

Masa, our guide, was lovely. She was well informed about the various shrines and temples we visited and helped us understand how they had been built and their history. The very best bit was being able to discuss easily what it meant to the people of Hiroshima and what is was like growing up and living with the events of the past. She was very well prepared for the unseasonal heat bringing extra parasols and neck coolers.

Masayo was fantastic!! Her English was great, and she knew her way around her home town expertly. we were able to see some awesome sites on Miyajima and make it to the peace memorial with time to make it thru the museum. she was kind to everyone she met, and had very personal stories about her family and the bombing of Hiroshima. We learned a lot, and even though I had been here before, she taught me new things. we appreciated the love she has for her city, and the preservation of its history and the world wide significance it held. if you come to Hiroshima, we fully recommend her private tour

Masa was an excellent guide and a very kind and thoughtful person. I have taken a few tours while in Japan, and hers has been my favorite. Miyajima is a very beautiful and special place and I was so glad to have a guide to show me around as she could explain to me the significance of all of the things I saw, as well as showing me unexpected hidden treasures that I would never have discovered without her. The heat was exceptional the day of our tour, but Masa came very well prepared with many things to help make me as comfortable as possible. I loved talking to her and was sad to see the tour e

Late March to early April for cherry blossom (2026 full bloom landed around March 29-31), or October-November for autumn color and oyster season. August 6 brings the Peace Memorial Ceremony — moving, but the city is at its most crowded. See our best time to visit Hiroshima guide.
