This is a 5-hour experience in Hiroshima. It is run by Native Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Miyajima, properly Itsukushima, is the island in Hiroshima Bay whose shrine stands on stilts over the water with its great torii gate in the sea, rebuilt in 1875 and restored in 2022. The gate is walked to at low tide and floats at high tide, and the tide table decides what you see; both are worth it. Deer roam the village, the ropeway climbs Mount Misen for the view over the Inland Sea, and the local foods are grilled oysters and momiji manju maple cakes. From Hiroshima it is a tram or train to Miyajimaguchi and a ten-minute ferry, about 40 minutes in all, or a direct boat from the Peace Park.

I would unfortunately not recommend this tour to anyone. Background: we are an active family of 4 (kids 10&13) and taken many similar tours. Normally, we wouldn’t book a private tour like this but we were adventuring with another family and wanted to keep things simple. Negatives: There were 3 options for pick up, ours ended up being 45min away despite being a private tour boasting pickup/dropoff and we also had day of issues meeting up. Despite the pretour questionnaire to address our fitness level, we marked ‘casual/normal’ to allow for kids and a more relaxed overall day. We were not able t
