Full description

This is a 8-hour experience in Mount Fuji. It is run by JRT Group, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Mount Fuji is 3,776 metres, Japan's highest mountain and an active volcano that last erupted in 1707. Day tours from Tokyo go to the Fuji Five Lakes on its north side, about two hours away: Lake Kawaguchiko for the classic reflection view, Oshino Hakkai's spring-fed ponds, the Chureito Pagoda above Fujiyoshida with the mountain behind it, and often the Fuji Subaru Line to the 5th Station at 2,300 metres when the road is open, roughly April to November. The summit is climbable only in July and August. Fuji is visible on roughly a third of days and most often in winter mornings; from June to September it is hidden in cloud more often than not, and no operator can promise the view, so the lakes and the pagoda are planned as worth the day on their own.

The price covers tour guide, Admission to the Hakone Ropeway and Round-trip transfers to and from the meet up location. It does not cover Meals and beverages, Other personal expenses and Hakone Pirate Ship Cruise fare on Lake Ashi, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

JRT Group sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with JRT Group before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Although it was a slightly rough start: our bus had mechanical issues and we had to wait for and switch to another bus, we still saw the sights without rushing. The bus driver was very courteous and drove smoothly (which is great for someone like me who suffers from motion sickness). Our guide, Mandy was excellent and organized! She reached out to ensure we knew where to meet a day before the tour. She is quite knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see Mt Fuji and its surroundings.

The trip was amazing and well organized. Sakuragi is a fantastic guide who has a bubbly personality which made the trip eben more enjoyable. We were able to see all the spots included. We saw Mt Fuji from a distance but not at the popular photo spot due to the clouds. There is traffic during peak season. It has affected the time we spent in the last 2 locations but we still managed to see all spots. Thank you to our guide. Worth the money.

Today we had a wonderful tour with an excellent guide. Our guide was truly lovely. We also visited many beautiful places throughout the day. It was a stroke of luck that we got such a clear view of Mount Fuji. Greetings from Turkey.

Our guide Will was informative and friendly. He always kept us informed of the plans for the day and ensured we knew meeting time and spots. The tour was seamless in getting on the bus and from place to place. It felt a bit rushed at times but it was a public holiday and it was busy which meant we needed to keep moving to get to other spots. We were lucky to have a clear day and the views of Mt Fuji were spectacular - we could constantly see it from many locations. A simple way for a tourist to see a lot of things in one day.

Beyond Five Stars! A Life-Enriching Tour Thanks to Mr. Sakuragi! Where do I begin? This tour was an absolute masterpiece of travel, packed with breathtaking sights and profound cultural experiences. The highlight, without a doubt, was our guide, Mr. Sakuragi. He was a master of his craft. Handling a group of travelers from different cultures can be challenging, but he did so with effortless grace, ensuring we were always safe, never lost, and felt completely cared for. His knowledge was boundless; he filled every journey between destinations with fascinating stories and insights about Japan. M

Nobody can promise it. Fuji is clear on roughly a third of days, most often on winter mornings, and from June to September it is in cloud more often than not. The tour runs regardless and the lakes, the pagoda and the ropeway are planned to be worth the day without the summit. There is no refund for cloud.

Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September — exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter — the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop — Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses — for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage — not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen — a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller — the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
