Full description

This is a 10-hour experience from Mount Fuji, built around Lake Ashi, Hakone Ropeway and Owakudani. It is run by Japan Visionary Tour, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Mount Fuji is 3,776 metres, Japan's highest mountain and an active volcano that last erupted in 1707. Day tours from Tokyo go to the Fuji Five Lakes on its north side, about two hours away: Lake Kawaguchiko for the classic reflection view, Oshino Hakkai's spring-fed ponds, the Chureito Pagoda above Fujiyoshida with the mountain behind it, and often the Fuji Subaru Line to the 5th Station at 2,300 metres when the road is open, roughly April to November. The summit is climbable only in July and August. Fuji is visible on roughly a third of days and most often in winter mornings; from June to September it is hidden in cloud more often than not, and no operator can promise the view, so the lakes and the pagoda are planned as worth the day on their own.

The price covers Limited time: Get a free ticket to the Hakone Ropeway!, English & Chinese speaking Tour guide, Comfortable vehicle with A/C, Round-trip transfers to and from the meet up location and All taxes. It does not cover Admission to the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise, Meals and beverages and Other personal expenses, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Japan Visionary Tour sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Visionary Tour before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

If you want a short spoken gentle lady guide as opposed to male guides yelling instructions (that's what I hear while waiting to disembark from the ship and board the ropeway), go with Belle. She was sweet knowledgeable and carrying. The activity had everything I wanted and more.

Nice, safe and knowledgeable guide An, and a very nice and skilled driver. The trip itself was wonderful, each stop was completely worth it. At the village I recommend paying a bit extra for the Museum, it was great to get away from the crowds. Hakone is breathtaking!

Our guide, Mr. Sasaki, was very enthusiastic and made the trip so fun. Even though it was a cloudy day and we didn't have a chance to see Mt. Fujitsu clearly, the trip itself was still fun.

It did what is said on the packet!! The only downside was the rain meaning there was no view of Mt Fuji - obviously no guarantees for the weather but it was still worthwhile doing. Belle’s communication before and during the trip was excellent, giving clear instructions on what to bring and where to meet and was in constant contact during the day with relevant updates. Would definitely use this company again.

Amazing experience! We had such a wonderful day exploring Mount Fuji and Hakone. Our tour guide, Kate, was absolutely lovely, friendly, and very professional. She explained everything clearly and shared lots of interesting information throughout the tour. She also took so many beautiful photos of us, which made the experience even more special. One of my favorite moments was when she lent me a kimono for free so I could take pictures with Mount Fuji, such a thoughtful and lovely gesture! Kate really made the whole day enjoyable and memorable. I highly recommend this tour, especially with Kate

Wonderful trip, even though the weather didn’t cooperate and we were not able to see Mt Fuji. We were still able to see so much in one day. Kate, our guide was absolutely fabulous!! Very knowledgeable and funny with great recommendations at each of the stops. Plus she offered to take photos at Arakura Fuji shrine for us and offered to let us borrow her kimono for the photos. Highly recommend🙌

Nobody can promise it. Fuji is clear on roughly a third of days, most often on winter mornings, and from June to September it is in cloud more often than not. The tour runs regardless and the lakes, the pagoda and the ropeway are planned to be worth the day without the summit. There is no refund for cloud.

Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September — exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter — the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop — Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses — for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage — not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen — a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller — the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
