This is a 10-hour experience from Nagoya, built around Takayama and Shirakawa-go. It is run by 株式会社KKT, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Takayama, in the Hida mountains north of Nagoya, kept its Edo-period merchant streets, morning markets and sake breweries, and Shirakawa-go, an hour beyond it, is the UNESCO village of gassho-zukuri farmhouses with steep thatched roofs built for the snow. Day tours from Nagoya, Kanazawa or Takayama itself run to the village; the observation point above it is the view, and winter, when the roofs carry two metres of snow and the village is lit on a few January and February evenings, is the reason many go. Hida beef is the regional food.

It was so healing! I went on a solo trip and it was so amazing to touch grass and be immersed in such a beautiful, other-worldly village. Tiger was an AMAZING guide ~ he explained each stop so well and was kind enough to help us take pictures too ✨

Not sure what happened to my prior review but this was an excellent tour. The guide (Jane Geng) did a wonderful tour for a large group of English and Mandarin speaking tourists. Ample bathroom breaks were provided throughout the day while traveling between the two scenic locations. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Takayama and Shirakawa, and gave helpful tips on what to eat, see and try at both locations. A huge “Shay-Shay/Domo Arrigato” to Jane and the Bus Driver (who got us there and back safely).

Very good. Very punctual. Summer was a great guide- friendly, social, gave advice and all her recommendations were spot on. We went to observatory as well for the view. Summer spoke good English too. She also can speak French ( but i don’t know if she conducts tours in French)

The guide was clear about the instructions to the Observatory shuttle bus stop and even took us there. She even came up and took photos for us.

We had a lovely time on the tour. The driver and guide were very professional, and they ensured we had a great time. The pick-up location was easy to find, and close to a Ministop so we could pick up snacks for the long drive. But we also did have a toilet break 2 hours in. Takayama was beautiful and 2 hours was enough to walk around the town and grab lunch. Our guide recommended a nice walking route for us. Shirakawago was lovely. This is one of the few tours that take you to the Observatory, and that is highly recommended as it is otherwise an 20 mins walk from the village. The 60 mins allot

You pay basicaly for transport, so its worth it. Trip was in chinese and english. English explenations was about 10-15 minutes before a city, chinese twice that. Still got to see shirakawa and takayama, which would be hard with public transport in a day. So i can recommend, just dont expect a lot of info.
