Private 2-Day Nakasendo and Kiso Valley Tour in Nagoya
Full description
This is a 2-day experience from Nagoya, built around Magome-juku, Nakasendo and Tsumago-juku. It is run by Kansai Holiday, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Nagoya is Japan's fourth city and the gateway to the Ghibli Park at Nagakute, opened in 2022 with timed tickets that sell out weeks ahead, to Nagashima Spa Land and its rollercoasters, and to Inuyama, whose castle is one of the twelve original keeps. Nagoya Castle's golden dolphins and the Toyota Commemorative Museum are the city's own sights, and hitsumabushi grilled eel and miso katsu are its food. The Ise Grand Shrine, Shinto's most sacred site, rebuilt every twenty years, is 90 minutes south.
The price covers Hotel pickup and drop-off within the selected Nagoya, 2-Day private sightseeing service, Air-conditioned private vehicle, driver-guide and Basic sightseeing assistance and route guidance. It does not cover Admission tickets, Meals and drinks, Personal expenses and Accommodation, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Hotel pickup in Nagoya. Kansai Holiday confirms your pickup time and the exact spot once the booking is in. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Kansai Holiday before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.
Tour Itinerary
The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.
Magome-juku
Stroll along the stone-paved slope of Magome-juku; the 600-meter-long path winds its way uphill, flanked by wooden townhouses that retain the atmosphere of the Edo period.
Nakasendo
This section of the old highway is one of the most popular preserved walking routes in the Kiso Valley. The trail passes through forest, small settlements, stone paths, rural scenery, and mountain streams, giving visitors a much stronger sense of the historic journey than simply traveling by vehicle.
Tsumago-juku
Unlike many reconstructed heritage areas, Tsumago is known for preserving its traditional wooden streetscape with limited modern visual distractions. Walk through the old town and see dark timber facades, lattice windows, traditional inns, shops, and quiet side streets.
Narai-juku
The preserved town stretches for roughly one kilometer along the old highway, creating one of the longest and most impressive traditional streetscapes in the Kiso region. Walk between rows of historic wooden merchant houses, traditional inns, craft shops, sake stores, cafés, and local restaurants.
Kiso-Fukushima
You can visit the Fukushima Sekisho area, explore the old-town streets, walk near the Kiso River, or enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
