Full description
This is a 1.5-hour experience in Sapporo. It is run by 和do Studio Sapporo, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Hokkaido is Japan's northern island, a different climate and a different scale: Sapporo is its city, with the beer museum, the ramen alley and the February snow festival; Otaru, 40 minutes away, has the canal and the glass and music-box shops; Noboribetsu is the hell-valley hot springs; Lake Toya and Lake Shikotsu are caldera lakes; and Biei and Furano in the centre are the flower fields and lavender of July. Winter brings two metres of snow to Sapporo and the powder that made Niseko famous. Distances are long and trains are few, so day tours from Sapporo are mostly by bus and run eight to ten hours.
The price covers Wood material selection, Use of tools for shaping and polishing, Guidance from an instructor and Apron for protection. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
和do Studio Sapporo sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with 和do Studio Sapporo before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Maybe it will be your best experience in Sapporo. You can get your own chopsticks easily.
What a great workshop. I ended up having a private lesson as I was the only one who signed up. I loved learning about the different types of wood and all the different tools used to make my chopsticks. Not I have a very personalized beautiful gift that is tailor made.
Lovely way to spend 1.5 hours learning how to make our own chopsticks. My 12 year old son and I really enjoyed it. Our host was so sweet and helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend as any kind of group or family activity to do something chill (gotta use some arm muscles!) and wonderful souvenir to take home. My son enjoyed it so much he wants to come back again next time ! Thank you for teaching us how to make traditional chopsticks.
Great experience and so treasure our take home souvenirs!!
Michi was a delightful, enthusiastic and charming instructor and each of us (including two teenage boys) ended up being very happy with our beautiful, glossy chopsticks. The language barrier (Michi doesn't speak very much English and we have no Japanese; she more than makes up for it with her genuine excitement) was a non-issue for this activity, which ended up being fun, meditative, and collaborative; and Michi didn't let us leave until we were all delighted with our finished chopsticks.
Our instructor was amazing and the sweetest woman ever. I will definitely recommend this to everybody I talk to. It’s been days and my friend and I still talk about much fun it was!
Very nice. Nice ladies. Good instructions. Loved the result
Was a great experience and the instructor was excellent. Definitely a must for any traveler to experience.
Our instructor Erica was excellent and we had a wonderful time!
Instructor was patient, encouraging and detailed about the steps.
It was so much fun and honestly an experience we will remember for years!!
The chopstick making class was one of the best parts of Sapporo! We happened to be the only ones in the class but the lovely guides made us feel so welcome. The instructions were clear and they were so kind to help us every step of the way. We feel so grateful to be part of such a great experience all the way from Florida to Sapporo!
