Full description

This is a 3-day experience in Sapporo, built around Otaru Canal, Otaru Sushi Street and Sakaimachi Street. It is run by Kansai Holiday, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hokkaido is Japan's northern island, a different climate and a different scale: Sapporo is its city, with the beer museum, the ramen alley and the February snow festival; Otaru, 40 minutes away, has the canal and the glass and music-box shops; Noboribetsu is the hell-valley hot springs; Lake Toya and Lake Shikotsu are caldera lakes; and Biei and Furano in the centre are the flower fields and lavender of July. Winter brings two metres of snow to Sapporo and the powder that made Niseko famous. Distances are long and trains are few, so day tours from Sapporo are mostly by bus and run eight to ten hours.

The price covers Private vehicle service for all 3 confirmed tour days, Pickup from confirmed Sapporo hotels or accommodations, Air-conditioned private vehicle, driver-guide for eligible options and Driving. It does not cover Admission tickets, Meals and drinks, Personal expenses and Extra stops not confirmed in advance, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Hotel pickup in Sapporo. Kansai Holiday confirms your pickup time and the exact spot once the booking is in. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Kansai Holiday before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Tour Itinerary

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Otaru Canal

Start at Otaru Canal, where stone warehouses and the waterfront preserve the atmosphere of the city’s former trading era. Walk beside the canal, take photographs, and enjoy the surrounding historic streets. The cruise offers a different perspective of the canal, warehouses, bridges, and harbor scenery.

Otaru Sushi Street

For lunch, enjoy free time around Otaru Sushi Street, where you can choose from local sushi and seafood restaurants according to your preferences. Otaru's Pacific saury sushi is also renowned far and wide.

Sakaimachi Street

Next, head to Sakaimachi Street, one of Otaru's most charming shopping districts. Here, you can watch the steam clock chime and browse a vast array of music boxes at the Otaru Music Box Museum, all while admiring the century-old architecture. Afterward, take some photos and enjoy a brief rest at spots like Kitaichi Glass and dessert shops such as LeTAO.

Otaru Aquarium

Next, the tour guide will take you to Otaru Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Hokkaido, where you can see harbor porpoises—a species found in Japan only at this facility.

Sapporo

After today's itinerary concludes, the driver will take you back to the designated drop-off point in Sapporo.

Farm Tomita

Farm Tomita, one of Furano’s best-known flower destinations. Depending on the season, you may see lavender, colorful flower fields, seasonal gardens, and rural views. After the guided tour, time is set aside for taking photos, or you may choose to take a short break at the farm café.

Shikisai no Oka

Shikisai no Oka, where broad flower fields and rolling hills create panoramic countryside scenery during the warmer months. You can drive your own vehicle through the flower fields, get up close with around 30 alpacas, and even experience feeding them.

Shirogane Blue Pond

Next, visit Shirogane Blue Pond, one of Biei’s most recognizable natural landscapes. The water may appear blue, turquoise, partly frozen, or darker depending on weather, sunlight, season, and water conditions.

Shirahige Falls

Continue to nearby Shirahige Falls, where streams emerge from rocky cliffs and flow into the blue river below.

Ningle Terrace

Continue to Ningle Terrace, a forest setting of small wooden craft houses surrounded by trees. You will try your hand at woodworking, carving a unique memento under the guidance of an instructor and your tour guide. Afterward, the guide will lead you on a stroll along the forest boardwalk; in summer, the lush greenery makes you feel as though you have stepped into a fairytale forest, while in winter, the interplay of snow and warm light creates a magical, snowy wonderland.

Asahiyama Zoo

Asahiyama Zoo is Japan's northernmost zoo. It features a glass tunnel where penguins swim overhead, allowing you to clearly observe their graceful, "flight-like" movements in the water; the zoo also hosts feeding demonstrations where you can learn about the animals' habits. The zoo also hosts feeding demonstrations that offer insights into animal habits, and you can even feed animals such as goats and reindeer.

Asahikawa Airport

After your zoo visit, meet your driver again and continue directly to your selected final destination: Asahikawa Airport or New Chitose Airport. Airport timing takes priority on Day 3.

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
