Full description

This is a 6-day experience in Sapporo, built around New Chitose Airport, Sapporo and Otaru Music Box Museum. It is run by Kansai Holiday, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hokkaido is Japan's northern island, a different climate and a different scale: Sapporo is its city, with the beer museum, the ramen alley and the February snow festival; Otaru, 40 minutes away, has the canal and the glass and music-box shops; Noboribetsu is the hell-valley hot springs; Lake Toya and Lake Shikotsu are caldera lakes; and Biei and Furano in the centre are the flower fields and lavender of July. Winter brings two metres of snow to Sapporo and the powder that made Niseko famous. Distances are long and trains are few, so day tours from Sapporo are mostly by bus and run eight to ten hours.

The price covers Hotel pickup and drop-off within Sapporo city, Air-conditioned vehicle, Fuel fees, Highway tolls for the arranged route and Parking fees for the arranged route. It does not cover Meals and drinks, Personal expenses, Admission tickets and Accommodation, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Hotel pickup in Sapporo. Kansai Holiday confirms your pickup time and the exact spot once the booking is in. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Kansai Holiday before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Tour Itinerary

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

New Chitose Airport

Meet your driver at New Chitose Airport and travel directly to Sapporo.

Sapporo

If your flight arrives early enough, enjoy selected city stops such as Sapporo TV Tower, Odori Park, and Tanukikoji Shopping Street before checking in at your hotel. The amount of sightseeing available on Day 1 depends on your actual flight arrival, immigration, baggage collection, traffic, and hotel location. Airport pickup remains the priority.

Otaru Music Box Museum

The tour begins near the Otaru Music Box Museum and the famous steam clock, followed by a stroll along Sakaimachi Street. This area features a unique, nostalgic atmosphere created by a variety of glass art shops, cafés, dessert shops (such as LeTAO), and stores rich in history. Your guide will take you to visit museums and learn about glass craftsmanship, while also allowing free time for you to take photos and relax at a café.

Otaru Canal

In the afternoon, we continue to the Otaru Canal. Your guide will lead you along the canal for photo opportunities before you board a sightseeing boat to soak up the historic atmosphere of the port. After disembarking, we will explore the area amidst the stone warehouses, enjoying the waterfront scenery and taking more photos. Authentic local cuisine—such as seafood rice bowls (*kaisendon*) or Genghis Khan (grilled mutton)—is also available nearby.

Return

After an in-depth tour of Otaru, the driver will take you to a designated location in Sapporo for dinner or back to your hotel to rest.

Farm Tomita

The first stop is Farm Tomita, renowned for its vibrant flower fields and lavender during the warmer seasons. After a guided tour of the flower fields, we will visit the Fragrance Workshop, where you can explore five different types of lavender essential oils and even try your hand at making your own. Finally, you will visit the Dried Flower House—Japan's largest exhibition space dedicated to dried flowers.

Ningle Terrace

Continue to Ningle Terrace, a forest setting of small wooden craft houses surrounded by trees. You will try your hand at woodworking, carving a unique memento under the guidance of an instructor and your tour guide. Afterward, the guide will lead you on a stroll along the forest boardwalk; in summer, the lush greenery makes you feel as though you have stepped into a fairytale forest, while in winter, the interplay of snow and warm light creates a magical, snowy wonderland.

Sapporo

After the activities in Furano conclude, the driver will take you to a designated drop-off point in Sapporo for dinner, or directly back to your hotel.

Lake Toya

Visit the Silo Observatory, where you can take in magnificent panoramic views of Lake Toya and the surrounding volcanic landscape. Afterwards, head to the lakeshore for a leisurely stroll. Following some photo opportunities, we have arranged a hot spring experience that allows you to enjoy the lake scenery while you soak.

Showa-Shinzan Bear Ranch

After lunch, the activity was a visit to the Showa-Shinzan Bear Ranch to experience feeding the bears.

Noboribetsu Hell Valley

Later, continue to Noboribetsu Hell Valley, known for steaming vents, mineral-rich hot-water sources, and dramatic volcanic terrain. Your guide will lead you along a trail to explore hidden gems such as O-yunuma (a massive crater lake perpetually shrouded in steam) and Oku-no-yu (a milky-white hot spring pool).

Sapporo

After today's itinerary concludes, the driver will take you back to the designated drop-off point in Sapporo.

Hokkaido Shrine

First, head to Hokkaido Jingu Shrine, nestled in the forest near Maruyama. Beyond watching over the development of Hokkaido, the shrine is particularly renowned for boosting career prospects and luck in competitions. It offers a wide array of *omamori* (protective amulets)—covering everything from health and academic success to traffic safety—and you can even purchase adorable "Ezo squirrel" fortune slips and unique Hello Kitty charms.

Sapporo TV Tower

After strolling through the park, you can visit the Sapporo TV Tower, a local landmark. You can ascend the observation deck—located at a height of approximately 90 meters—to enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Odori Park and the Sapporo cityscape; on clear days, you can even see as far as the Sea of Japan.

Sapporo Beer Museum

After lunch, you will visit the Sapporo Beer Museum, where your guide will show you vintage brewing equipment, historical posters, and video displays, offering an in-depth look at the beer-making process.

Shiroi Koibito Park

At Shiroi Koibito Park, you can observe the entire production process of Shiroi Koibito cookies—from baking and filling to packaging. Afterward, we have arranged an activity where you can hand-paint your own unique Shiroi Koibito cookie or decorate a dessert.

Mount Moiwa

An observation deck in downtown Sapporo offering 360-degree views of one of Japan's "New Three Major Night Views." Ascend via a unique ropeway to enjoy panoramic vistas of the city and Ishikari Bay from the summit, where you will also find a restaurant and a romantic photo spot. A visit in the late afternoon is recommended to take in both the sunset and the night scenery.

New Chitose Airport

Meet your driver at your Sapporo hotel and transfer directly to New Chitose Airport. Please provide your flight number and departure time in advance so sufficient travel and check-in time can be planned. For later departures, a brief stop at Maruyama Park, Hokkaido University, or another nearby Sapporo location may be possible when confirmed in advance and when sufficient time remains. Airport timing always takes priority on the final day.

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
Three days works well: one for the city, one for Otaru, and one for a day trip or ski day. Our Sapporo 3-day itinerary has winter and summer variants with realistic timings.
