Full description

This is a 9-hour experience from Sapporo, built around Bus/coach, Ningle Terrace and Shikisai No Oka. It is run by Clover Travel Co., Ltd., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Hokkaido is Japan's northern island, a different climate and a different scale: Sapporo is its city, with the beer museum, the ramen alley and the February snow festival; Otaru, 40 minutes away, has the canal and the glass and music-box shops; Noboribetsu is the hell-valley hot springs; Lake Toya and Lake Shikotsu are caldera lakes; and Biei and Furano in the centre are the flower fields and lavender of July. Winter brings two metres of snow to Sapporo and the powder that made Niseko famous. Distances are long and trains are few, so day tours from Sapporo are mostly by bus and run eight to ten hours.

The price covers Round-trip transportation in a comfortable vehicle, guide service and Asahiyama Zoo admission. It does not cover Personal/travel insurance, Lunch and Snowmobile ride cos, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Mr Hong was an excellent guide, very patient, friendly and considerate! Other guests might have known about the fact that cash was required for the snowmobiles, this would have made things smoother for everyone. Maybe announce this on the website so people know in advance? 30 minutes longer in the zoo would have been nice. Anyway, Mr. Hong did a great job ( even with those people who missed their own bus and used ours), he is very well organised and competent.

Our tour guide Mr Lin was very attentive and took care of all on board. As the group was mainly from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, he spoke in Mandarin mostly. He also shared a lot of history, culture and practices in Japan, and recommended good food we could try. Mr Lin also shared tips on where we could take good photos and videos of the penguin walk at the zoo. It was a pity that there was traffic control at Ningle Terrace so we were not able to visit. We were brought to Takushinkan instead. Also due to heavy snow, it took longer to return to Sapporo after the day trip. Mr Lin was very nice;

We were disappointed with this tour. I wanted to say that the tour guide was good and certainly tried hard to be entertaining and helpful. However, the set of the tour is not worth the money. You hit each place along with thousands of other people at the same time and nothing is organised for this many people meaning that it’s chaotic and unpleasant. The second main stop is really just for the snow mobile riders and if you are not interested in that, it’s just over an hour of wasted time in a significant tourist trap. The tree and then stopping for ice cream mean that our stop at Ningle Terrac

As a must-visit in Hokkaido, Asahiyama Zoo exceeded all expectations! The penguin parade was absolutely magical—watching these cute creatures waddle across the snow made my kids scream with joy. The zoo is well-maintained, with clear English signage and friendly staff who happily answered our questions. Don’t miss the polar bear exhibit—their playful antics against the winter backdrop were unforgettable. Perfect for families, couples, or anyone who loves animals! 5/5 stars without a doubt."

Had a wonderful experience! Great tour-guide Xiao Hong who spent a lot of effort to introduce the tour group to Hokkaido and each of the places of visit, and in 3 languages (Korean, Mandarin and English)!! Wonderful wonderful tour guide. Definitely highly recommended!

Our guide made sure we didn't miss the penguin parade, which was great. Such a fun winter day! The penguins at Asahiyama were so fluffy and cute, and the snowmobile was safe even for a first-timer. The driver gave us warm tea after the ride, such a nice touch.

Worth every yen! The penguin fun was the highlight, and the snowmobile checked a big bucket-list box. The pick-up from our hotel was totally stress-free.

Such a magical winter experience! My partner and I booked this for our Sapporo trip, and we loved every minute. The penguin parade was cozy and adorable, and the snowmobile ride felt like a fun, adventurous detour through the snowfields. The driver knew all the best photo spots, and the pick-up at our Airbnb was totally hassle-free. 10/10 would recommend!

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
Three days works well: one for the city, one for Otaru, and one for a day trip or ski day. Our Sapporo 3-day itinerary has winter and summer variants with realistic timings.
