Full description

Sapporo is one of the cities that defined Japanese ramen, and eating a single bowl tells you almost nothing about it. This tasting tour fixes that by taking you to three different shops in a little over two hours, giving you a mini bowl at each so you can eat three without defeating yourself. The shops sit in Susukino, along the Tanukikoji arcade and in the downtown area, three parts of the city with distinct characters, so the walk between them is worth something in itself. At each stop you choose your bowl from a selection of six to ten options, which means the tour adapts to what you like and to what you have already tried. Guiding all of this is a ramen expert whose commentary is the real substance of the experience. You get the origins of the dish and how it arrived in Japan, the differences between the major types and what defines each one, how a bowl is actually built from broth to noodle to topping, and where the current trends are heading in a scene that changes faster than most outsiders realise. By the third bowl you are tasting comparatively rather than just eating, noticing how the broths differ and why one shop's noodles behave differently from another's. It is a compact, well-paced couple of hours, easy to fit around other plans, and it leaves you able to walk into any ramen shop in Japan afterwards and order with some idea of what you are asking for.

It was great. I have an idea about the ramen now thanks to the tour. Don’t forget to be hungry before the event.

Very diverse choices and plenty of food. Don't have a heavy lunch and be prepared to eat! The guide was nice and explained the food customs, the ingredients and how each ramen is prepared.

We had a great time as Sho was a fantastic guide and taught us many things about the different ramen we were having. All of the ramen was delicious while my husband and I had different favorites. Fun way to spend the evening!

Sho's tour is fantastic!! If you've always eaten ramen without really knowing much about it, this is an excellent opportunity to dive deep into the different types and qualities of the various styles. He is super attentive and lovely! There is a bit of walking between the different spots and there might be a few minutes of waiting in line. If you decide to do it during a cold season, make sure to bundle up! Highly recommended!

Highly recommended! We were the only two people on the tour which was great! We arrived early and Sho let us know of a couple of great places to grab food and drinks that are very popular. The ramen was all delicious, perfect amount for me but too much for my partner. Don't fill up on the first stop! We purchased beverages outside of what was included. Sho filled us in about so much about the way to eat ramen, like filling your leftover soup from the ramen with a diluted soup so you can drink it, and gave us the option to upgrade to the special ramen of the day at applicable restaurants. He was very friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. He answered all our questions and filled us up. Don't forget a jacket at night for when it gets chilly since you may have to wait outside to get a spot to eat in the restaurants. It was great to be able to go into small ramen shops with a local who can read the menus for you!

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
Three days works well: one for the city, one for Otaru, and one for a day trip or ski day. Our Sapporo 3-day itinerary has winter and summer variants with realistic timings.
