Full description
Hokkaido eats differently from the rest of Japan, and this three-hour private food tour is the shortest route to understanding why. You go out with a local host rather than a scripted guide, and the whole tour is shaped around what you actually want to eat. Tell your host you are here for ramen and the walk bends that way; say you want seafood, or that you would rather graze widely than commit to one big meal, and the route changes accordingly. Sapporo's most iconic dishes are all on the table, from the city's own style of ramen to the fresh seafood that Hokkaido's waters are known for, and your host explains what makes each one particular to this place. Lively markets are part of the walk, and they are worth doing with someone who can tell you what you are looking at, since a market stall is where the difference between a good and an ordinary version of something becomes obvious. Between stops you cover ground on foot through the neighbourhoods where the food scene lives, which gives you the geography as well as the flavours. Because the tour is private, there is no group to keep pace with and no fixed running order: if something looks good you can stop, and if a place turns out to be the highlight of the day you can stay longer. You finish knowing not just what you ate but where to go back to for the rest of your trip.

Great overview of what locals eat. Wish it also included Niko market.
Had a great time - I’d been to Sapporo before but this was an excellent reintroduction to a few spots off the beaten track.
AMAZING! My guide was a beast and a gem when it comes to showing you good food in Sapporo. He picked me up at my hotel (winning already) and drove us around to some of his favorite places. From grilled beef tongue to tasty ramen to delicious and cheap sushi on a conveyor belt, nothing disappointed. He also told some great history about Hokkaido that was great to learn while feasting. I highly recommend!
Excellent and true local experience, Amazing guide and a lot of fun!
Zarina was great, very knowledgeable and courteous, and thought a lot about our needs
Asuka was a wonderful guide, very helpful and provided a great selection of activities which I enjoyed very much.
Enjoyable afternoon - learned a lot and got to try several foods that were new to us
