Full description

This nine-hour scenic day tour lifts you out of central Sapporo and carries you north into the wide, open country that most visitors to Hokkaido never make time for. The coach rolls for around two hours before your first and longest stop, Asahiyama Zoo, where you have a couple of hours to work through the famously inventive enclosures at your own pace. The design here is what made the zoo well known, letting you watch the polar bears and the rest of the collection from angles that feel unusually close and unusually natural. From the zoo the road turns towards the countryside, pausing briefly for a photo of the Tree of Ken and Mary standing alone in its field, then continuing to Shirahige Waterfall, where meltwater spills straight out of the rock face into the river below. A short hop away lies the Shirogane Blue Pond, the still, mineral-tinted water whose colour has made it one of Hokkaido's most photographed places; you have time here to walk the shoreline, take pictures and browse the small shops. The final stop is Ningle Terrace, a scattering of little wooden craft cabins set among the trees and often called the Forest Elf Terrace, where you can wander between the workshops before the coach turns back towards the city. Two pick-up points and two drop-off points are available depending on the option you choose, so you can join and finish wherever is most convenient for your stay.

This tour was an amazing experience. I would recommend this tour for all ages. Mr Hong is a fantastic tour guide, he is very informative with each destination, provided additional information and the allocated times for each spot to allow a smooth transition throughout the day. The bus driving was very smooth, thank you to the bus conductor (apologies for not remembering his name). Thank you for the amazing day and tour.

The tour runs about nine hours, departing Sapporo around 8:00 AM and returning by roughly 5:00 PM. The first leg north takes around two hours, and there is further driving between the countryside stops. You spend the longest single block at Asahiyama Zoo, with around two hours there at your own pace.

No. The price covers your professional local guide and all fees mentioned in the itinerary, but meals, personal expenses and gratuities are not included. There is time at the zoo and at the later stops to buy food, and the small shops at the Blue Pond and Ningle Terrace are useful for a snack.
Most of the day is spent outdoors on foot at the zoo, the waterfall, the pond shoreline and the Ningle Terrace woodland paths, so comfortable walking shoes matter. Hokkaido weather changes quickly and the countryside north of Sapporo is noticeably colder than the city, so bring layers and a windproof jacket. In winter, waterproof boots with grip are worth having, as paths can be snowy or icy.
Yes. Asahiyama Zoo is one of the most child-friendly attractions in Hokkaido, and the rest of the day is short walks and photo stops rather than hiking. The main thing to weigh is the length of the day and the coach time, so bring snacks and something to occupy younger children on the drives.

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
Three days works well: one for the city, one for Otaru, and one for a day trip or ski day. Our Sapporo 3-day itinerary has winter and summer variants with realistic timings.
