Full description

Sapporo Teine is close enough to the city to reach in about an hour and good enough that the ski area hosted Olympic events, and this all-inclusive day removes every piece of admin that normally stands between a visitor and Hokkaido's powder. Your local driver collects you and takes you out to the mountain, and from there the equipment rental and the lift tickets are already handled, so there is no queuing at a counter in a language you do not read and no working out which pass covers which lift. The class itself runs for around two hours in a private format, which means the instruction is pitched at you rather than at the average of a mixed group, whether you are strapping in for the first time or refining technique you already have. Afterwards you have a further couple of hours to use the mountain freely, putting the lesson into practice on runs that drop towards the coast. Teine's particular pleasure is that view: the ocean sits at the bottom of the sightline while you ski, which is rare anywhere and very rare on snow this good. Hokkaido's powder has a reputation that draws people across the world, and Teine gets it in the same abundance as the better-known resorts inland while being far easier to reach from a Sapporo hotel. Your driver stays available through the day for on-site assistance, and at the end takes you back to the city, so the whole outing needs nothing from you but showing up.

Maggie was utterly delightful and a such excellent teacher. Perfect for absolute beginners (me) as well as those needing more confidence before they go out on their own. Everything was so comfortable and easy to navigate from start to finish - money well spent. This is also the only tour I’ve seen where helmet, goggles and gloves are included with rental gear!

Everything was made simple start to finish, gear was all prepared, we got changed and straight into the lesson! Maggie was a fantastic instructor and great company throughout the day! She taught us from beginner to doing multiple runs down the mountain in one day!

I had the best time night skiing with my instructor! Sofie was super friendly, patient, and consistently prioritizing safety above all other considerations. Her tips were easy to follow, and I could feel myself improving after every run. We laughed a lot, and the night views were amazing. Honestly, I didn’t want the lesson to end! If you get the chance, definitely book with her — she makes skiing so much fun!

We had the most incredible experience! It was my very first time ever on skis, while my husband already had some experience, so we weren’t sure how it would work with our different levels. Chris, our guide, was absolutely amazing at managing both of our abilities. He challenged my husband in all the right ways while being incredibly patient, supportive, and encouraging with me. I honestly went in with pretty low expectations, thinking I’d just try to survive the day — but the experience far exceeded anything I imagined, and that was entirely thanks to Chris. He helped me feel comfortable, safe, and confident throughout the day. It was a full-day experience, so I’m not quite a pro yet 😅 but I’m definitely comfortable enough now to put on skis and show off my new skills! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better day. Highly recommend! Would give 6 stars rating if I were aloud 😅☺️

Come dressed for a full day on Hokkaido snow: warm base layers, a waterproof jacket and trousers, gloves, goggles and a hat. The rental covers skis or a board and boots, but personal clothing is up to you. Sun glare off fresh snow is strong even on cold days, so eye protection matters.
It is private, for your group only, with a maximum of four guests, and your driver stays available through the day for on-site assistance. The tour is priced per person, and lunch and personal expenses are not included.

February for deep snow and the Snow Festival, or late June to mid-July for Furano's lavender. Note that Sapporo's cumulative snowfall of 4.7–5 m is often misread — actual ground depth peaks around 80–100 cm in February. Full month-by-month detail in our best time to visit Sapporo guide.
The 2027 festival runs 4–11 February across Odori, Susukino and Tsudome, and entry to all three sites is free. Hotels sell out 6–9 months ahead and rates run 2–3× normal — our Snow Festival guide covers whether that premium is worth paying.
The subway covers most of the city at ¥210–380 a ride, and the weekend Donichika pass is just ¥520 — far better value than the ¥830 weekday version. The airport train is ¥1,230 (33–37 min). See getting around Sapporo.
Yes — it's 30 minutes and ¥800 by JR, making it the easiest day trip in Hokkaido. The canal, glassworks and sushi street fill a comfortable day. Timing tips and the Snow Light Path dates are in our Otaru day trip guide.
Miso ramen (invented here around 1954), jingisukan lamb BBQ, soup curry, and Nijo Market seafood. Bowls run ¥900–1,500. Where locals actually eat — and which famous spots to skip — is in our Sapporo food guide.
Niseko has the deepest snow (~15 m a season) but the highest prices — a 2026-27 peak day pass is ¥13,500. Rusutsu, Kiroro and Sapporo Teine (¥8,400 online) offer similar powder for less. Honest comparison in our Niseko and Hokkaido ski guide.
