Full description
This is a proper metalworking session dressed in an unusual setting. The studio is 3D projection-mapped, and the visuals on the walls respond to the sound of hammering, so the room changes as you work. It sounds like a gimmick and it is, but the craft underneath it is real: forging, with Silver 925, under one-to-one guidance from an artisan.
Forging means shaping the metal by working it rather than casting it, and it produces a denser, better piece than a mould does. You start with stock silver and hammer, anneal and finish it into the item you chose. Beginners are the norm here; the artisan works with you throughout and the group caps at four.
Three paths are offered. The necklace course produces a finished piece you take home the same day. The bangle course is the more involved one — a forged silver bangle up to 3 mm wide in size M, which takes more of the ninety minutes because there is more metal to move. And for anyone who wants the piece to matter more, there is an 18-karat gold ring course, also same-day.
Laser engraving, including your own handwriting, and anti-tarnish coating are available as extras. A three-day processing plan exists for the necklace that includes engraving and coating, if you would rather have it finished properly and collect it later.
The workshop is at Minami 2-jo Nishi in Chuo-ku, a three-minute walk from the subway, which puts it in the middle of Sapporo's dining and nightlife district.
