Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by mon cadeau, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Matcha tea, Seasonal sweets, Introduction explanation sheet, All materials to do the restorations and repairs and Piece of crockery to repair. It does not cover Everything is included, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
mon cadeau sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with mon cadeau before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

My teenage daughter and I so enjoyed our Kintsugi experience! It was wonderful to repair our own ceramics using this traditional Japanese technique. Michiko was an excellent teacher and helped us create beautiful plates to take home. Thank you!
This class was one of the highlights of our trip! Every detail was thought out, with wonderful mathcha and sweets, expert instruction, and beautiful pottery and even a amazing box to keep it in. Amazing hosts and felt personal and was an aurhentic experience.
The guides skilfully led us through the steps to create a piece of kintsugi. They were very hospitals, the venue is wonderful and cosy and the drinks and Japanese sweets plentiful. would highly recommend this activity: relaxing and learning a new skill.
This is an authentic kintsugi experience, and we loved it! The guide is a real kintsugi teacher, which is a craft that takes decades to learn. As a half Japanese woman who grew up in Tokyo, I wanted to take my friends to an authentic experience, and was skeptical of the cheap workshops that were being advertised for an hour or so on various sites. I chose this one because the teacher is a real master, and I wanted to learn the right techniques so I could do it at home. She combines the lesson with snacks and learning about the history of kintsugi, which honors the spirit of the practice. It wa
Brilliant brilliant brilliant! Michiko-san provided a wonderful experience - from the matcha, to the barley tea, to the snacks...and that was just the warm up. The Kintsugi workshop was excellent and every step was explained to us. Michiko-san is a wonderful teacher and we ended up with some nice looking plates. Would recommended to everyone, fantastic!
My daughter and I had so much fun at this workshop. It was very intersting and we got to take home a very special souvenir. I also purchased a kit to take home to repair some sentimental pieces I have. We loved ths experience! Our hosts were amazing!!
Best experience of the trip! Such a personable experience as well as informative and rewarding.
Was intrigued by this workshop based on other reviews and suggested it to my travel buddy who was less than enthusiastic at first. We had a great time, totally enjoyed ourselves, and created a wonderful keepsake memento from our trip. I'm so happy we took the time to locate the meeting place and followed through with a great adventure. Treats were tasty and they kept our tea cups fillled! Highly recommend this event!
Amazing workshop for my teenage daughter and me. Expert tuition with great teacher-to-student ratio. Loved it and will treasure my little kitsugi plate forever!
Michiko-San provided a wonderful experience making modern kintsugi in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We appreciated the learning about the history of the craft, enjoying tea and snacks, and even meeting her cute dog, Bob! Michiko-San was patient, kind, and hospitable. This was such a unique way to create a memory of our trip to Tokyo. We look forward to returning and doing another workshop in the future.
This experience was a great way to participate in a modern version of Kintsugi. It was fun and relaxed and Michiko was a great teacher and hostess. Highly recommend.
We joined a beautifully curated two-hour modern kintsugi workshop at mon cadeau and created our own small keepsake while learning the philosophy behind this traditional art. The process was explained clearly and patiently, making it easy to follow and deeply meaningful. Michiko and Yuki were exceptional hosts — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate. They created such a welcoming, almost family-like atmosphere that we felt comfortable from the very first moment. Their kindness and thoughtful guidance made the experience truly special. This workshop was one of the highlights of our time in T
