A full day for people who care about Japanese cars: the circuit, the motorsports museum, NISMO, and Fuji behind the metal.

Highlights

  • Fuji Speedway, with the mountain behind the circuit on a clear day
  • Fuji Motorsports Museum — around 40 cars across 130 years
  • NISMO showroom, Nissan's motorsport arm
  • Photo stops framing Mount Fuji with the cars
  • Private and fully flexible for eight hours

Full description

This is a specialist day and does not pretend otherwise. If Japanese performance cars are the reason you came to Japan, it goes to the places that matter and gives you the whole day to do it.

Fuji Speedway sits at the base of the mountain and has hosted Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship and Super GT. Its main straight is about 1.5 kilometres — among the longest in world motorsport — and on a clear day Mount Fuji stands directly behind the circuit, which is the single most recognisable backdrop in Japanese racing.

The Fuji Motorsports Museum opened alongside it and runs about 40 significant cars across roughly 130 years, weighted toward Japanese manufacturers. NISMO's showroom is the other stop — Nissan's motorsport arm, where the racing history and the current cars sit in the same room.

The day is built around photographs as much as visits, with stops at the Fuji viewpoints where you can get the mountain and the car in one frame. It is private, so the schedule bends to what you actually want to see and how long you want to stand there.

Detailed Itinerary

Pickup is early, around 07:30, because Fuji Speedway is roughly two hours from central Tokyo and the mountain is far more likely to be visible in the morning — cloud builds through the day for most of the year.

The circuit and the Fuji Motorsports Museum take the biggest block. What you can see trackside depends entirely on whether an event is running that day; your driver checks the calendar beforehand and plans around it. The museum is open regardless.

NISMO follows in the early afternoon. The return leg is deliberately unhurried, with stops at the viewpoints where the mountain frames well behind the car. You are back in Tokyo in the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently it is hidden by cloud. Visibility is best early in the morning and in the colder months, which is why pickup is at 07:30 — but it cannot be guaranteed on any given day.
It depends entirely on the event calendar. Some days the circuit is open to visitors, others it is closed for a race or a private test. Your driver checks beforehand and plans the day around what is actually possible. The Fuji Motorsports Museum is open regardless.

Eight hours, of which about four are driving. Pickup is 07:30 from your Tokyo hotel.
Honestly, probably not. This is a specialist day built for people for whom Japanese performance cars are a reason to visit Japan. If you mainly want Mount Fuji scenery, a standard Fuji day trip is better value.
