Full description
This is a 1.5-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Manami Watanabe, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Origami paper: We will prepare various kinds of traditional, Scissors, Pens, Small bags for the guests to bring their works back and Water and some snacks. It does not cover Pickup at the train station, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Manami Watanabe sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Manami Watanabe before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

it was lovely experience learning about an old tradition. Love how patient Manami was with us.
Our group of 4 adults and an 8yo had an amazing time with Manami! She very patiently explained and demonstrated how to make 3 origami pieces (we chose to make a samurai helmet, a jumping frog, and a crane). She was so kind and encouraging to our 8yo, taking time to make sure he was keeping up with all the steps and helping him when he struggled. We very much enjoyed learning about the history of origami and appreciated how Manami incorporated stories from her family and childhood and how meaningful origami is to them. It was a very good experience. Very nice, open minded guide with a very good command of English. Each of us was able to follow the step-by-step instructions and successfully create 4 origami during the workshop. Good atmosphere and patience of the guide contributed to the positive experience. I would highly recommend this activity to other visitors in Tokyo.
The whole family had a great time. Origami is such a fun activity, none of us had done it before and it was easy to follow. Manami was an excellent teacher and very kind and patient. I would highly recommend her and this activity, definitely one of the highlights of our holiday

We went to an origami class with Manami Watanabe-san and absolutely loved it! We were a group of 2 adults, with our 13 and 10 year old daughters. We had had a bit of prior experience with origami, but not much. We had time to each make 3 items (crane, open box and lotus flower) during the session with her . She explained all the steps very clearly, was very patient and added explanations about the symbolism or history behind origami overall and these shapes in particular. I was lucky enough to have a one-to-one session with Manami. I spent a lovely time practising the art, with close but gentle guidance and managed to make 4 pieces. Manami is a great teacher, and I highly recommend her workshop!
