Full description

Tokyo is a different city after dark and a frustrating one to photograph on foot, because the best views are spread far apart and the trains stop before the night really settles.

A private car solves the geography. Rainbow Bridge is lit along its whole span and crosses to Odaiba with the skyline stacked behind it — a view you simply cannot get from a station, and the bridge carries an expressway, a surface road and the driverless Yurikamome line on its double deck. Tokyo Tower, 333 metres of orange lattice built in 1958 and deliberately nine metres taller than the Eiffel Tower it copied, is floodlit every night and reads best from the streets around Shiba rather than from directly beneath it. Ginza's flagship facades run on light after closing, and Shibuya Crossing is busier at 21:00 than at noon.

The itinerary is yours to shape. Want more time at one viewpoint, a stop for food, a detour to somewhere you saw a photo of — say so and the driver adjusts. Nothing is fixed except the four hours.

Pickup covers Tokyo and Yokohama hotels, which makes this workable if you are staying near the port or coming off a ship. Outlying addresses eat into the four hours, so confirm yours when booking.

Because it is a drive with photo stops rather than a walk, it holds up in rain, in February cold and in August humidity, and it suits limited mobility, tired children, or anyone who landed that afternoon. Observation-deck entry is not included if you want to go up the tower.

Tour Itinerary

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

6:30 PM20 minutes

Hotel pickup

Collected from your hotel and the route agreed with your driver.

6:50 PM50 minutes

Tokyo Tower

The floodlit tower with stops at the best ground-level angles.

7:40 PM1 hour

Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba

Across the lit bridge to the bayfront and back toward the skyline.

8:40 PM

Ginza and Shibuya

Lit shopfronts through Ginza, finishing at the crossing at its busiest.

Detailed Itinerary

Pickup is usually around 18:30, adjusted for the season — the tour needs full darkness, which comes much earlier in winter. The route is agreed in the car and can change at any point.

Tokyo Tower is the usual opener because the floodlighting is at its best early in the evening and the ground-level angles are quiet before nine. Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba follow, with the bayfront giving the widest skyline views of the night.

The last stretch runs through Ginza's lit facades into Shibuya, timed for when the crossing is at its busiest. You are dropped back at your hotel.

Our driver Michael was very friendly and he drove us to all the must see cool spots by night in Tokyo. We had very interesting conversations about differences between our countries and how it is to live in Japan. We had a good time and took some awesome photos. At the end he showed us a very tasty sushi restaurant, which we enjoyed a lot. We would highly recommend this experience.

We booked the Tokyo night tour and got picked up right from Narita , which made arrival stress-free. His Toyota Crown was incredibly clean and honestly felt like a racing car inside, super smooth and powerful. The whole tour was really nice, he knew all the best spots and timed everything perfectly for the city lights. He’s very good at what he does, welcoming and easy to talk to the whole night. The car ride itself was a highlight, fast but comfortable with zero rush. We felt looked after from pickup to drop-off and had a great time. Would definitely recommend him if you want a clean car + a solid Tokyo night experience.

Our night tour was such a pleasant surprise. The cooler evening weather made walking around so much easier, and the city looked incredible under the lights. Our guide was friendly, patient, and made sure everyone was comfortable. We stopped at several great photo spots, and the atmosphere felt peaceful compared to the daytime rush. It was a perfect way to end the day, and I’d happily do it again.

We had an incredible Tokyo night tour with Mian, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Tokyo looks completely different after dark, with colorful lights and an amazing energy everywhere. Shibuya was unforgettable with its famous crossing, huge screens, and lively streets. Shinjuku was even more impressive at night with endless neon lights and busy entertainment areas. Harajuku had its own unique atmosphere and gave us another side of Tokyo to experience. Odaiba was beautiful and peaceful, with stunning nighttime views of the city and Rainbow Bridge. The contrast between Tokyo’s busy streets and waterfront scenery was amazing. Mian was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole journey comfortable and enjoyable. We had plenty of opportunities to take beautiful nighttime photos along the way. I would definitely recommend this tour with Mian to anyone who wants to experience the beauty and lights of Tokyo at night.

Our Tokyo Night Tour with Sunny was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. From the moment he picked us up, he made us feel welcome, comfortable, and genuinely cared for throughout the entire experience. His knowledge of Tokyo is simply incredible—he knows not only the famous landmarks but also countless hidden gems that most tourists would never discover. Every stop had an interesting story, making the city come alive in a unique way. Sunny always knew the best routes, avoiding traffic and ensuring we spent more time enjoying the sights instead of sitting in the car. He was incredibly friendly, patient, and happy to answer every question with a smile. His passion for Tokyo and its culture is obvious, and his recommendations were spot on. We never felt rushed, and he went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible experience. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about creating unforgettable memories rather than just driving you around, Sunny is the perfe

Late March to early April for cherry blossom, or late October to early December for autumn colour and the clearest skies. Contrary to most advice, October is Tokyo's wettest month (234.8 mm), not the June rainy season. Full month-by-month figures are in our best time to visit Tokyo guide.
Get a Suica or Pasmo IC card and budget ¥1,000–¥1,400 a day. Do not buy a JR Pass for a Tokyo-only trip — it costs ¥50,000 and excludes Tokyo Metro and Toei entirely. Note JR East raised Tokyo fares on 14 March 2026, so Metro is now cheaper than JR on several routes. See getting around Tokyo.
Shibuya Sky releases tickets only 14 days ahead at 00:00 JST — it cannot be booked months in advance. teamLab Borderless tickets drop at 12:00 JST on the 1st of each month. Our 3-day Tokyo itinerary lists every booking deadline.
Yes — a Japanese licence or an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. 1968 Vienna Convention permits are not valid in Japan. Licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco and Taiwan need an official JAF translation instead. Arrange it before you fly; see the Tokyo go-kart guide.
Yes — the highway bus from Busta Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko takes about 1h 45m for ¥2,200. But manage expectations: Fuji is visible on 84% of December mornings and only 23% of July mornings, and cloud builds through the day, so go early. Details in our Mount Fuji day trip guide.
Edomae sushi (the Tokyo Bay style, where curing began as a workaround for having no refrigeration), monjayaki — a runny griddle dish unique to Tokyo with 80+ specialists on Tsukishima's Monja Street — and soba. Also worth knowing: Tsukiji Outer Market never closed; only the wholesale auction moved to Toyosu. See the Tokyo food guide.
The crossing itself takes about ninety seconds. What makes it worth an evening is one street back — Nonbei Yokocho, a lantern-lit alley of tiny bars a minute away that almost nobody who photographs the scramble walks into. Note street drinking is banned in the area 18:00–05:00 year-round, though the ordinance carries no fine. See the Shibuya Crossing guide.
Yes, some. Japan's cashless ratio reached 58% in 2025, so over 40% of payments are still cash — and card refusal is most likely at small independent izakaya, ramen ticket machines and market stalls. Tipping is not expected anywhere.
