Full description
This is a 1.5-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.

Japan Guide Stars sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Guide Stars before treating your booking as final. A really lovely morning activity on a rainy day - even I was pretty useless at it! Our Sensei was lovely and very engaging, she guided us through the different techniques and told a bit about the cultural importance of the calligraphy. A nice little activity for all ages. While the t-shirts/scrolls are an additional cost (entirely reasonably!) I was content just using the paper and practising a few words and my own name. Overall, I would recommend it for the 1.5 hours it takes
It was amazing, every member of the staff team was super friendly and helpful! Yumi was amazing with her guidance and somehow managed to even get me to write decently! Can only recommend this course if you want to try something more traditional and take home a nice souvenir.

Great workshop! Yui was really welcoming and was a great help in translating and motivating. Our teacher was very competent and explained things really well
Une expérience a faire absolument. La dame a été très gentille. Elle a aidé toutes les personnes présentes à bien choisir la signification de leur kanji et les a même écrit sur un papier. Elle a même eu la gentillesse de nous faire un T-shirt personnalisé en écrivant dessus. Elle a été super patiente malgré le fait qu’on était obligé de traduire de l’anglais au français.
Fantastic experience! We learned the history of Japanese calligraphy, practiced different styles, and created our own kanji. Noriko was incredibly patient, kind, and made the workshop fun and easy to follow. We opted to do the additional scrolls and tshirts which are 4000 yen each. Highly recommend this as an authentic cultural experience in Japan!

C'était vraiment intéressant d'avoir l'historique des kanji. Le prof est passionné, patient, bienveillant et très aimable. La traductrice yuuka était très gentille, douce et attentive. Faire et refaire les kanji était très sympa et apaisant. J'ai vraiment adoré cette activité.
Un moment très interessant et sympathique avec Maho et Tomo.
