Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Chopstick making workshop, Choose from over 10 types of high grade wood, Tips for Exploring Shinjuku, All tools and materials provided and staff. It does not cover The other high-grade woods, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Japan Guide Stars sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Guide Stars before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Eily gave clear instructions for the chopstick making process and we each left with a lovely keepsake.
This was a great way to spend an hour learning a new skill. Sunny and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Well recommended!!
We had the lovely 'B' as our guide and it was her 2nd day, I think! she was really knowledgeable and helpful and the whole team were excellent at supporting us in doing something we have never done before! It was a great activity to do with our older teenagers and a lovely keepsake of our time in Japan. 10/10
it's close to the station, so we barely got wet even in the rain! They run a kintsugi workshop at the same place, so we joined the chopstick-making as an add-on while we were there. Great option for a rainy day! It was a fun activity the whole family could do together. Our main host Nonoka was really experienced and answered all our questions, so we came away having learned a lot. Highly recommend!
I had a fun time making chopsticks! My guide Rafa was very friendly and helpful, and I had a great experience. I made two extra sets, and now have unique souvenirs from Japan.
Honestly I went in thinking this would just be a quick stop while I was out in Shinjuku, and it ended up being one of my favorite time of the whole trip. The host walked me through everything at my own pace and was very welcoming. You get to pick your wood (loved that there were so many options, not just the basic one), shape it with a hand plane, sand it down, then oil it until it's smooth and shiny. It's a proper hands on class too, not one of those where someone else does the hard part for you. By the end you're holding a pair of chopsticks you made with your own hands. No experience needed
I always thought of Shinjuku mainly as a place for shopping, so I was looking for something more interactive to do during my visit. The price was also very reasonable, so I decided to give this experience a try — and I’m so glad I did! The souvenir I made is such a wonderful keepsake and feels even more special because I made it myself. I’ve become really attached to it! The staff were also incredibly kind and helpful throughout the experience. It was such a fun and memorable experience, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different to do in Shinjuku!
I had a wonderful time making my own personalized chopsticks. The guide was very kind and explained everything clearly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this experience! Thank you very much.
such a fun activity and really good value for money!
It was such a great activity, I couldn’t think any better of it !
