Full description
This is a 3-hour experience from Tokyo, built around Secret stop, Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory - Kichijoji and Ghibli Museum. It is run by Loved in Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Expert guide with Ghibli-related stories and local insights, A sweet treat at the pastry shop, Visits to locations connected to Studio Ghibli and its and Visits to locations that inspired some of Studio Ghibli’s. It does not cover This tour does not include entry to the Ghibli Museum, This tour does not include ticket arrangement services, Souvenirs from the sweets shop & cafe and Train transportation costs, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Loved in Japan sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Loved in Japan before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Traveler Reviews
Rui is the best guide ever, he was showing us around real life places that are also in ghibli movies, the nice thing was that he also included scenes from other anime's like jujutsu kaisen. He was buying food and taxis for us also giving us multiple presents along the way. He always made sure we were feeling fine and was super careful about us. Great guide equals great experience, thank you Rui from me and my grandma!
Rui was extremely well informed and was mutually as curious as he was insightful. Inquiring about American culture and our worldview, and how it is either similar or different to Japanese culture in a very considerate way. Also elaborating on the history of Japan and how it was conveyed in the Ghibli films. We even got to see Miyazaki’s brother who owns the pastry shop! It was a wonderful time!
The tour was amazing ! It was very interesting to here about the origins of Studio Ghibli . The tour guide was brilliant .
Our tour was wonderful! Rui took us to interesting places around Tokyo and was really knowledgeable about Studio Ghibli facts and trivia.
My 10-year-old son and I had a great tour with Rui. He is a very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable guide and certainly a passionate Studio Ghibli fan. We got to go through some lovely parts of Tokyo we wouldn't have known about on our own, learned a lot about the history of how Studio Ghibli started, and saw some wonderful places and architecture that inspired some Ghibli movies. Learning about these was very inspiring for us. Rui’s tour was so well prepared and organized, with lovely surprises sprinkled through. I strongly recommend his tour. Thank you so much, Rui, for a wonderful Ghibli exp
Wonderful experience which I would highly recommend. The tour guide was lovely and very informative and it is great value for money.
Great tour with Rui-san! Very nice experience, with interesting explanations about Studio Ghibli and some of its movies. I definitely recommend it, especially if you’re lucky enough to see Miyazaki-sensei!
Great tour, very informative and the guide was great!
Our guide Rui was very interesting, pleasant and knows very well the Ghibli studio history. we thank him a lot for all his explanations. it was a very nice experience for me, my wife and my son fifteen years old. we recommend this activity and we recommend this guide.
Thanks to this tour we got the opportunity to get a glimpse of the actual locations for the Ghibli Studio history which was inspiring. Our excellent, generous and engaging guide Rui took us to several places, and most amazing was visiting the Open-Air Architectural Museum and seeing the very places that Hayao Miyazaki drew inspiration from for Spirited Away. Through this tour and thanks to Rui, we got a feel for the reality behind the animated world, and we would absolutely recommend this tour.
Rui was our tour guide, he was very friendly and nice, we enjoyed the tour very much. We recommend 😁
Rui was knowledgeable, flexible, and accommodating. Great experience and tour of Studio Ghibli inspiration!
