Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers guide, Visit to a sumo training stable, Explanation of sumo rules and rituals and Opportunity to speak with wrestlers. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Japan Guide Stars sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Guide Stars before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Wow, what an intense experience! We had no idea how powerful Sumo’s were and to see them up close during their real practice was amazing. Anthony was a great guide who provided an overview of Sumo and its cultural significance. We were glad there were seats to sit on, we’d been worried we’d be on the floor. Highly recommend!!
Our guide Yuki made this experience even better than I hoped for. He was clearly a sumo fan himself and was very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some insight into an ancient cultural aspect in of Japan.
It was a truly unique experience, one that would be hard to surpass in terms of authenticity. Huge credit to the athletes, the Master, and the stable for sharing such a fascinating glimpse into their world. Anthony was an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. His introduction and the follow-up Q&A added valuable background and context, making the entire morning even more enriching and memorable. Thank you Anthony from Marcin with the family!
Great tour and viewing. Ichiro excellent guide and explained key things clearly so we could appreciate what we were seeing and enjoy the experience
Kawa san explained everything very well and answered our questions competently. It was amazing to get so close to real sumo ringers and learn about their life etc.
Our guide Kawa was very knowledgeable and welcoming. It was great to see Sumo wrestlers just going about their training sessions, it really is incredible to watch. We had questions after and Kawa was happy and able to answer all of them. I would highly recommend this activity.
Kawa was amazing knew so much and answered all my questions
We had a lot of fun visiting a sumo stable with our guide, Kawa. Kawa is very knowledgeable about sumo and was able to explain the sport and answer our many questions. This is a unique opportunity to access a sumo stable, get close to the wrestlers, and watch them train and spar. You won’t see this outside of Japan. Highly recommend!!!
Excellent tour. It felt genuinely authentic being an actual practice session at a Sumo stables. Our guide Kawa was brilliant and gave us an excellent primer on sumo wrestling and training beforehand which really helped us get the most out of our visit. Highly recommend,
