Full description
This is a 4-hour experience from Tokyo, built around Tsukiji and Tsukiji Outer Market. It is run by Japan Wonder Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo's wholesale fish market moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu in 2018, but the Tsukiji Outer Market, the lanes of shops and stalls around the old site, stayed and is where the food walks go: tamagoyaki on a stick, tuna cuts, uni, grilled scallops and knife shops, busiest from about 8:00 to 11:00 and closed on Sundays and some Wednesdays. The tuna auction itself is at Toyosu, watched from a viewing deck before 6:30 with an advance lottery. Sushi classes teach shari, the vinegared rice, and the hand pressure of nigiri; most run two to three hours and you eat what you make.
The price covers Lunch, Sushi workshop, and professional guide, Family-friendly Sushi making workshop with history and host. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Tsukiji Honganji. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Wonder Travel before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Everything was excellent, very kind staff. Thank you to: JJ as the guide, K as the Host and KORO as the chef. They were so nice!
We loved the tour of the food market. Sunny, our guide, was excellent- full of interesting info and obviously passionate about sharing her knowledge of Japan's food & drink. We tried lots of food Ive never even seen before & had a lot of chats and laughs. The sushi making was also very good and Im sure we'll be practicing when we get home. This is a fun activity for teens who enjoy their food.
This was a fun activity where we learnt about the different foods available at the fish market with an informative guide. We then did a sushi making session which was lots of fun. A great morning. Highly recommended!
Kate and Keigo were amazing! Definitely worth every money!
Masa was amazing on walking tour and Kate and Miky were fantastic at sushi making!!! It's a must in Tokyo
Our Tsukiji Guide Jiro was excellent. In addition to the market we also visited the Tsujiki Temple and a shrine. She was very kind and knowledgeable. Our Sushi host Miky was kind and enthusiastic, as was our Sushi Chef Kate. Great quality of fish and instruction.
Mac gave us a great tour of Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple and Tsukiji Market, teaching us common best practices, traditions, history, and phrases. The market was lively with lots of sights and smells. He then passed us off to Miky who took us up to the cooking class with Chef Tanaka. They gave us a great course on how to make sushi - nigiri and maki with Miky translating. They made it easy and fun to become amateur sushi chefs and sushi eaters. The food was great as well and they offer drinks at additional cost. Thanks to the team for a nice day!
Excellent tour and sushi making. We were shown a variety of stalls and given the chance to try things we would not have normally looked at without a guide. We have some great food souvenirs to take home with us. The sushi making class was a great experience. Learning how to make our own sushi and then getting to eat it too! The staff were friendly and willing to take pictures of the group for nice memories.
The tour of the sushi market was a great way to start the tour! We were able to try food and walk around. The sushi making class was great! They explained everything very well and had a slideshow to learn the different types of fish and sushi. I would recommend this tour when visiting Tokyo!
Kate, Yuko, and Matsayo were very kind, professional and entertaining! Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the market and learning how to make Sushi!
Very enjoyable, learned a lot about sushi making, good information for the tour of Tokyo market , shrine and temple. Excellent guides. Went with adult children and husband.
Excellent market tour, lot of information about surroundings. The class was amazing, with a real chef. We learned to prepare so many sushi varieties, some of them didn’t know to exist before the class
