Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Smapla Inc., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers A guide to making mochi, mochi to eat on the spot, mochi as souvenirs, pestle and mortar. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Smapla Inc. sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Smapla Inc. before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Brandon was great, we really enjoyed the matcha pounding experience and the tasting afterwards.
Great experience with a talented and personable instructor. We both had a chance to pound mochi, break it into balls, and taste it with 10 different toppings. The instructors were very warm and helped us fill the entire experience, as my daughter is using it for a class assignment. They can accommodate groups of up to 15, though smaller groups definitely seem like they will get more of a hands-on experience.
We had a blast making mochi and tasting it afterwards. It is fun family activity.
Fun and immersive, got to experience pounding the rice into mochi and kneading the mochi
Super fun and informative experience. My son and I had a great time learning about making mochi! Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this fun and unique activity. We got a workout in. At the end, they offered to run the mochi through a machine if we were too tired. It was cute to see my girls (5&8) knead and pound the rice, they even let my baby try… cute photos and videos to be had for sure. My 5 year old is tiny and I was surprised they had the cutest little hoppi for her. The place is super cute and clean. The upstairs area is large and spacious and had a cute robot camera with a button nose that made it blink. The portion of rice you get is huge and you end up making a lot. We were not offered to take the rest
We had a great time making mochi! It was entertaining, funny and delicious. We learned about the culture around mochi and enjoyed tasting it after all of our hard work. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and fun for the whole family!
Such an amazing, awesome, fun experience and immersing ourselves into the Japanese culture and traditions. You get a little background/history on mochi and then have a hands on experience of making the mochi. They also make sure to take pictures of you every step of the way! Then you get to eat and enjoy 🥰 Great experience and only one hour of your day!!
Making our own mochi was so much fun for my son and I, awesome learning experience with friendly guides! Getting to eat the mochi with all the toppings after was such a treat, highly recommend a booking for any mochi lover!
simple and easy class.. nonstressful and totally enjoyable... totally recommend doing this.
Our instructors were so welcoming and helpful. Loved our time there. Made some great memories.
We first visited Senso-Ji Shrine and ended with this activity. We were welcomed by two nice women who explained the workshop. Every step of the making of moshi was explained. We could try each of them. Our daughters (5,17) had a lot of fun especially xhen I was pounding the stick rice. After the preparation part were went upstairs to eat our homemade moshi with a lot of different tastes. They tasted so much better than those we buy in the shops. Saulty and sugar. A matcha ice tea was alos part of the tasting. Really nice experience with kids in a quiet place.
