Full description
Edo was, for a long stretch, the largest city in the world, and it burned down repeatedly, flooded, and executed people in public. Tokyo is built directly on top of all that, and Japanese ghost stories are unusually specific about where things happened.
This walk goes to those places after dark. Japanese folklore does not really do the Western haunted-house template — it has yurei, the vengeful dead who return over a specific grievance, and yokai, a vast catalogue of spirits that are as often mischievous or absurd as they are frightening. The stories are older and stranger than the horror films that borrowed from them.
Some of what your guide tells you is documented history: fires, executions, plagues, the sites where they happened. Some is folklore that has been told in these streets for centuries. The guide is clear about which is which, which makes both more interesting.
It is atmospheric rather than a scare attraction — no actors, no jump scares. Just dark streets, real places and stories that have lasted.

Detailed Itinerary
The walk starts after dark, so the time shifts with the season. The opening is context: what Edo actually went through, why so much of it burned, and how Japanese ghosts differ from the ones most visitors grew up with.
From there the route moves between real sites. Your guide is explicit about the sourcing — this is a documented execution ground, this is a story people have told for three hundred years — which lands better than blurring the two.
The final stretch turns to yokai, which is where Japanese folklore gets genuinely odd. It ends near a station.

I would definitely not recommend the tour. This is not a cheap tour. The Guide was more interested in telling us the history other than the ghost story. It should have been called a historical tour and not a ghost tour with scary Japanese stories. The tour guide didn’t know much ghost stories and she said that maybe I will talk about history. I wouldn’t recommend, it was money completely wasted for people looking out for ghost tour.
