Denim Jeans-Making Workshop
Full description
Okayama denim is the reason serious jeans people talk about Japan at all. The mills in the Kojima district kept weaving on old shuttle looms long after the rest of the world moved to faster machines, and the slightly irregular, dense fabric they produce is what most premium denim brands now buy from. This one-hour workshop in Harajuku is a chance to handle that fabric and walk out wearing it.
You start by choosing a silhouette, then the hardware: one patch, six rivets and a button are included, and you pick each from a tray rather than accepting a default. Staff walk you through what the parts actually do — why the rivets sit where they do, what a patch is traditionally made of, how a waistband is finished — so the hour is closer to a short course in construction than an assembly exercise. Hemming to your length is included, which is the detail that turns it from a souvenir into something you will wear.
Sizes are unisex and run in increments of two from 24 to 44, and availability shifts, so check the confirmation email for what is in stock on your date. The group caps at six, staff speak English and Japanese, and no experience is assumed — most people arrive having never thought about how a pair of jeans is put together.
Upgrades exist and are optional: selvedge denim, premium leather patches, extra rivets, embroidery. None of them is necessary for a good result. The workshop is on the fourth floor of a building one minute from JR Harajuku's Omotesando exit, which puts it a short walk from Takeshita Street and Omotesando if you want to make a morning of it. It is wheelchair accessible.

They were kind and detail focused, helping you understand the each step while going over, and you have plenty of freedom to make the pair your own. Much recommended, especially to go home with a pair you complete with them.
