Full description
Tokyo does not read as a single city from the ground. It is too large and too flat, and the observation decks each show you one slice of it. Thirty minutes in a helicopter is the only way to see how it actually fits together — the bay, the river system, the wards running to the horizon, and the two towers that anchor the skyline at opposite ends of it.
The route takes in both. Tokyo Skytree at 634 metres is the tallest structure in Japan and looks entirely different from the air, where you see it against the low-rise sprawl of the eastern wards rather than from directly beneath. Tokyo Tower, the 1958 lattice tower painted international orange, sits in the dense western centre surrounded by buildings that have long overtaken it in height but never in recognisability.
The aircraft takes one to four passengers and the price is for the flight rather than per head, so it drops sharply per person with a full cabin. Flights leave from Chiba Wangan Heliport at Shinko in Chiba, facing Aqualink Chiba on the east side of Inage Seaside Park — allow travel time, this is not central Tokyo.
Arrive at least thirty minutes before your slot for the safety briefing and paperwork. Staff will take photographs if you ask.
Two honest cautions. A flight scheduled before sunset happens in daylight, so book a later slot if you want the city lit. And on bookings before 19:00, airspace restrictions can occasionally prevent the leg towards Tokyo Tower, so the route may differ from the description — worth knowing before you spend this much on half an hour.

Traveler Reviews
It was very good, the communication was very fast and clear. The flight plan was really good and the scenaries were amazing. We could see many of the major Tokyo sites beautifully. Pilot was kind and it was a smooth flight. I really recommend ! Just make sure to plan enough time to reach the helipad, it took 1h30 transport from Shibuya.
It was an amazing experience! The staffs were super nice and helpful. The pilot pointed out all the landmarks, I felt very safe and comfortable for my first time on a helicopter. Highly recommended, it's the best way to see tokyo, definitely worth splurging on the tour.
The tour was great! Especially since we made it during afternoon hours. The heliport was a bit difficult to find. Maybe if you could arrange a pick up from the nearest metro station would be much more convenient. I surely recommend to all Tokyo visitors!
Very friendly, professional, well organised and beautiful experience over all. Very good team. Congratulations!
If you go to Tokyo, you must need to do this one. Marvellous.
