Full description
This is a 3.5-hour experience from Tokyo, built around Local restaurant, Omoide Yokocho and Yakitori Alley. It is run by Goen Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Walking tour, 2 Japanese local foods, 1 drink of your choice and Unlimited edited photos. It does not cover Hotel pickup and drop-off and Additional food and drinks, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Starbucks Coffee - Keio Shinjuku 3-chome Building. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Goen Japan before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Fantastic! Our guide made sure to make changes to one of our restaurants to accommodate the fact that I had had surgery and was unable to sit on the floor in the traditional Japanese manner. She was friendly and kind and fun. ❤️
Naoki was fantastic! I’m so glad we booked this tour because we would have never found these hidden gems on our own. I knew we wanted to experience Shinjuku, but since it was just me and my 16-year-old son, I also wanted something family-friendly. Having a fun, knowledgeable local guide took all the stress out of navigating the trains and figuring out where to eat. Instead of ending up in tourist traps, we got to enjoy an authentic evening exploring places we never would have discovered ourselves. All three food stops were unique, delicious, and memorable. Naoki also made sure we saw some of S
Rino was an excellent guide and companion the entire evening. She was very knowledgeable about the food and the area where we walked. She was also very personable and a joy to engage with. Rino speaks very good english and my family and I highly recommend her!
Naori was a great guide. Great mix of restaurants and arcade to keep everyone happy and engaged
Amazing tour! Shuhei was a brilliant guide, reliable, personable, knowledgeable and fun to spend an evening with. Our eating experiences were second to none and it was a real highlight of our time in Tokyo. His English was perfect and gave us lots of good tips and information about the city. He made our two teenage boys feel included and we could not rate him highly enough! 5 stars ++++
Yu was great! She was patient, kind and took us to amazing places! We were very pleased and had a lot of fun! I highly recommend her!
We truly enjoyed the food, the experience, the in-between moments, and the company of our guide, Yui. She was friendly and kind and a wonderful dinner companion. We would never have discovered a couple of the areas she showed us, including our last stop on the tour. It was the perfect way to kick off our trip and we gained knowledge and confidence for dining out during the rest of our trip! Thank you to Yui! P.S. Skip lunch!
Shinjuku is a very busy area with so many hidden restaurants and bars we decided to have a guide to help us navigate the area with our teen. Our guide Akira was very familiar with the area and brought us to some truly unique places and experiences that we would have never found on our own. Our teen especially loved the tour and mentioned that it felt more like we were hanging out with a friend than the other formal tours we had been on.
Our night food tour in Shinjuku with Zenji was easily one of the absolute highlights of our trip! From start to finish, Zenji was incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming. He has a wonderful energy and was especially fantastic with our daughter, making sure she felt included and engaged the entire time. The food and stops were spectacular. We had multiple food stops with perfect okonomiyaki that truly felt like a place reserved only for locals we never would have discovered on our own. Incredible, fresh nigiri and visiting the coolest hidden gem of a snack bar with amazing drinks. Kind enough
Naoki was truly amazing! He made it so fun and we enjoyed all the restaurants and walking around Shinjuku. What a great tour and highlight of our trip.
My teenagers loved this! It was one of the most favorite things we did in Japan. A great family activity.
