Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Japan Wonder Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Real Sumo stable watching, Photos with wrestlers and and professional licensed guide. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Japan Wonder Travel sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Japan Wonder Travel before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Traveler Reviews
We were very excited about this experience, because we were really interested in learning about sumo and experiencing it first hand. This activity exceeded our expectations! It’s very intimate and up-close. It was very informative and we found the guides to be very patient and knowledgeable. Observing the practice felt majestic and incredible. We cannot recommend it more to people who want to learn about sumo.
The practice session was amazing! For a sumo fan like me, it definitely was something that I would do again because at the actual event, I would only get to see some wrestlers one time only, which can last less than 10 seconds. At this practice session, I got to enjoy more than an hour of watching wrestlers such as Atamifuji (one of my favorites). There is no replacement for this. Sitting so close to them is also unimaginable in terms of seat availability at the Basho. I will most likely go again. If there is one thing I wasn't happy with, was that at the end of the tour everyone gets a photo
Great tour, highly recommend for anyone interested in traditional Japanese culture
Very enjoyable and educational. Would thoroughly recommend this.
Do not miss this. Amazing experience, knowledgeable host, pace was perfect. Learned so much.
Our visit to the Oshiogawa Sumo Stable was one of the highlights of our Japan trip, and Yuriko made the experience even more special! Yuriko was an excellent and very informative guide. Throughout the morning practice, she kept us updated on what was happening and shared fascinating details about the wrestlers, traditions, techniques, and sport of sumo. Even after practice, Yuriko continued educating us during our walk back to the meeting point, sharing more interesting facts about sumo and Japanese culture. It was truly an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend this tour and especially
Amazing! I’m a huge Sumo fan so this was a great experience for me. Our guide was very informative and provided a lot of knowledge about Sumo, the stable, and the wrestlers. The wrestlers really give it their all even in practice. To witness the sheer power is amazing. A must do. Stay away from the gimmicky fake Sumo shows and go watch this instead!
Excellent insight into the life and training of sumo wrestlers. Recommended.
We had a great time - our guide was super knowledgeable and gave us a real sense of what we were watching (having come from no understanding of sumo!). Would recommend.
The sumo tour was run very professionally and was one of the highlights of our trip. The earpiece made it easy to follow along and understand everything that was happening. We gained a much deeper appreciation for sumo culture, traditions, and the training process than we would have by simply watching a match on our own. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout the experience. It was fascinating to watch the coaching, conditioning, and wrestling practice up close. Since our kids are involved in sports, many aspects of the training were relatable to what they experience in
A unique experience. Genuinely authentic. Highly recommended.
It was fantastic, Okunaga San is amazing, very knowledgeable, perfect English and willing to teach l, he is an amazing person will definitely look out for any other tour he has, the tour itself spectacular, this is real training not a show exactly what I looking for
