This is a 1.5-hour experience in Tokyo. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Tokyo's wholesale fish market moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu in 2018, but the Tsukiji Outer Market, the lanes of shops and stalls around the old site, stayed and is where the food walks go: tamagoyaki on a stick, tuna cuts, uni, grilled scallops and knife shops, busiest from about 8:00 to 11:00 and closed on Sundays and some Wednesdays. The tuna auction itself is at Toyosu, watched from a viewing deck before 6:30 with an advance lottery. Sushi classes teach shari, the vinegared rice, and the hand pressure of nigiri; most run two to three hours and you eat what you make.

Our tour this morning with Kenny was so fun! It was very cool to see places that more locals know, and everything was delicious. The highlights were the tuna sushi and the wagyu, but everything was so good! Kenny brought her own wasabi for us to try which was very thoughtful and delicious. We had a great time!

Beautiful tour guide Kawoa (I’m guessing, sorry, I’m terrible with names). He was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, encouraged us to try many things, and advised what to avoid. He even had some fresh wasabi and a grater in his pocket so we could have some on our sushi. Loved every minute of this tour. Thank you.

We had a wonderful hour and a half exploring the old market, trying delicious food and enjoying the hustle and bustle. Everything was smooth and easy. Best guide - Yayoi was amazing, very knowledgeable, generous with answering questions and fun. Great way to see the markets!!

If you get George as your guide, you’re in for a big treat. George speaks excellent English and packs his commentary full of fun facts. He guides you to the some of the most quirky and unusual stalls - difficult to find if you try to do this tour on your own. Highlights for me were sizing up a king size crab leg, enjoying delicious Japanese omelette together and winding up for coffee at the John Lennon bar. Apparently ever since he and Yoko drank there in 1978, they’ve been playing Beatles songs there! 5 stars for an unmissable tour - not just for foodies! Assad’s George!
