Bentota is about ninety minutes south of Colombo, where the Bentota Ganga meets the sea behind a long sandbar, and it has been the island's spa coast since the first resorts opened here in the 1970s. This trip pairs the two things the town does best and gets you back the same day.
The massage runs a full two hours, which is long enough for the treatment to be the real thing rather than a hotel abbreviation of it. Sri Lankan Ayurveda works with warm herbal oils applied in long strokes along the body's energy lines, followed in most cases by a steam or a herbal bath.
