it was what everyone else has commented, you get what you pay for. 1st boat to pakbeng was packed like sardines. second day boat was better, little bit more room, not as over crowded.

Was definitely a unique experience and glad that we did it. Don’t expect comfort, but instead stunning views. We overpaid quite a bit, compared to if you book it in person. Also note, that there is a van+train, in case you want to be there faster.

Loved the 2 day trip !!!! Made long lasting friends and made memories that will last a lifetime ! The boat was a little packed in certain areas but that’s all apart of the experience . Don’t miss out and take a ride down the Mekong. Plus the one night stop in pakbeng was beautiful ! Small small town that is just happy to see you ! Humbling

Overall I guess you get what you pay for. I loved how we got a guide to take us through the land border, which otherwise would’ve been incredibly stressful if I did it on my own. The views you get from the slow boat were out of this world, just a shame the conditions on it were pretty poor. Everyone was so squished, there definitely shoudve been less people on board. And then for whatever reason the boat drops you off quite a while from Luang Prabang, forcing you to pay a tuktuk driver 100k LAK with no real idea where he’s taking you. But hey, at least we made it in the end!

The Transportation was very good. The Thai driver was good, the guide on the Laos side was running several small side businesses. She did money exchange , but not at a good rate. Charged us an extra 10%. Took us to her family convenience store to buy snacks. Both of these are available right at the slow boat dock at better prices. Our recommendation is to wait until you are at the dock to buy food and do Laos money exchange or wait until you are at Luang Prabang for money exchange. Much better rate. On GYG, the description said that no alcohol was allowed on boat but everyone came on board wit

The driver picked us up around 5am. Immigration was messy—remember to bring passport photos. After entering Laos, we stopped at a tour office for currency exchange and SIM cards. Make sure you know your phone number before you leave; the kids mixed up several of our numbers across our phones. Days prior, the company contact said bring 20 and 100 baht notes as they're widely accepted in Laos. We brought tons of small baht, only to learn that we'll get ripped off. We should've known. The boat ride: Day one was organized with assigned seats based on price. After the Pakbeng stopover, a new boat h

Very useful trip to get from Chiang Rai to Luang Prabang. The slow boat is full of backpackers and packs of beer ;-). The boat is very packed but it is a very unique experience.

En général, nous avons adoré notre We loved the experience. Our only concern was about the transport between the border post and the boat, where our guide was not very friendly and made us stop at a store to buy food for the trip, saying there was nothing else! She obviously wanted to promote a personal business.
