Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples sit side by side across Japan and the etiquette differs slightly: at a shrine, bow at the torii, rinse hands and mouth at the water basin, then bow twice, clap twice, bow once at the hall; at a temple, no clapping, hands together, and incense if it is offered. Photography is fine outside and usually not inside halls. Zen meditation sessions, zazen, are taught at several Kyoto and Tokyo temples in 30 to 60 minute sittings with the posture explained; a shukubo temple stay adds the morning service and vegetarian shojin ryori. Shoes come off at every hall.

Traveler Reviews
3-day spiritual retreat perfect for learning meditation and yoga. Our host is very attentive to our needs. Thank you for this beautiful retreat.
I stayed with Amori and her family for a retreat for 3 days. I was looked after and cooked for with a lot of love and dedication. I felt very comfortable and completely safe and learned a lot from the conversations and from the shared meditation and yoga classes. I will not forget this time and should the opportunity arise, I can return to a longer retreat at any time. I would like to thank Amori again very much for the teaching and the intensive discussions and to her family for the loving accommodation and care.
Amori gives everything she can to her students. the food that her cousin prepare is amazing and always very beautifully presented. the place is not a luxury resort but is a family place. very quiet and 40 minutes away from the city so I stayed there without moving all the period because you it feels to be in another world. everyone takes care of your needs and I appreciate a lot all the love that they put in what they do I was basically alone so I had a lot of private classes which for me was a luxury and after the program I chose to stay one more day. other people joined for single classes so
I attended what was originally meant to be a small-group retreat, but it became a solo one. While it wasn’t what I expected, it offered me a quiet space to meet myself and for that, I am thankful. The teacher holds deep knowledge of both Yoga and Vipassana traditions. Her presence is calm and sincere, and her love for the practice is felt in how she teaches. Her family, too, was warm and kind, and I felt welcomed into their home. This experience helped me sit with parts of myself I usually avoid and that alone was powerful for my personal journey. Personally, I felt the offering was quite simp
