Full description

This is a 10-hour experience from Chiang Mai, built around Living Green Elephant Sanctuary. It is run by Living Green Elephant Sanctuary Chiang Mai and Chonburi, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.

The price covers Hotel pick-up and drop-off, Traditional northern clothing for the visit, Pad Thai Cooking Workshop, Lunch and Drinking water. It does not cover Personal expenses and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Chiang Mai. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Living Green Elephant Sanctuary Chiang Mai and Chonburi before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Amazing experience! Absolutely no words can describe our visit today. We had a great time with the elephants, the staff are very knowledgeable and stayed with us at all times guiding us and making sure we were safe. Bamboo raft was relaxing, lots of fun and we got to see more elephants along the river.

The best elephant sanctuary in chiang mai. From the moment our transportation van arrived, to stopping for a snack and coffee, the drive, the greeting, the tour and back to the hotel. Everything was incredible. Thank you to all the guides, sweetest locals and staff 💕

Good fun day! Loads of time with the elephants who seemed well taken care of and happy to be there. Bamboo rafting was also a great way to see some nature in a calm relaxing way. The cooking class, while it did tell you how to make pad Thai and made more than enough for everyone’s lunch, wasn’t very hands on cooking wise, it was more just throw prepared ingredients into one big pan. Still worth the money and the day but if you’re excited about a detailed cooking class I’d recommend doing that separately. Would recommend anyway!

This tour was fantastic. Our guide, Mak, was amazing and we got to spend a lot of time with the elephants at the sanctuary to start and end the day. The pad thai cooking was a lot of fun and turned out really well. The bamboo raft was also really fun and quite relaxing. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.

Unreal experience would recommend this company to everyone! Got picked up at 8 and got dropped back after 4 so long day packed full of stuff to do. A lot of great info about the elephants and all the guides are so helpful. Would recommend the sanctuary, rafting and cooking package!
