Full description
This is a 5-hour experience from Chiang Mai, built around Wat Pha Lat Hike (Monk's trail), Wat Pha Lat and Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is run by Elephant Welfare Sanctuary, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japan's outdoors is organised: trails are marked, mountain huts are booked, and the walking routes with history, the Nakasendo post road between Magome and Tsumago and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage in Wakayama, are done in comfortable day stages with luggage forwarded. Cycling tours use the flat river paths and back streets that cars avoid. The summer heat from July to September makes early starts essential in the cities and lowlands, while the mountains are cool. Winter turns Hokkaido and Nagano into ski country from December to March, with the powder that Niseko and Hakuba are known for.
The price covers Pick up and drop off from meeting points, All admission fees required for programs, English speaking guide with TAT license, Transport by air con SUV for 4 - 7 seats and Or VIP van for 9 seats. It does not cover Personal expenses, Gratuity and Any soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Elephant Welfare Sanctuary sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Elephant Welfare Sanctuary before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Our guide wqs great! Went the extra mile to make sure we got the experience we want.
Loved this tour!! Our guide , Rue, was friendly and knowledgeable. The walk to Wat Phalat is a beautiful gentle hike. I really enjoyed learning about the walking meditation and the significance of the lotus flower and lighting candles. Highly recommend this tour!
Great hike and guide! A little confusing on pickup but once it was sorted the rest of the tour was fun. Beautiful temples and view of Chiang Mai at the end. Really authentic experience :)
We really enjoyed our Monks Trail hike tour with our friendly guys and assistant. Loved the uphill trek to the middle Wat with great natural scenery on the way, the serenity of the temple and surroundings were lovely. Great views and setting from the highest temple, really enjoyed sitting and listening to the chanting Monks around sunset and the Wat was so spectacular. Lighting a candle with a wish and receiving a monk's blessing address to a memorable experience. We had bad traffic leaving the sorry so we're a little rushed on the trek and middle temple, maybe leave 25 minutes earlier. We rea
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the exquisitely beautiful mountain temples with our guide, Tu. Tu is a lovely, gentle person; very knowledgeable and with lots of interesting stories and information. He added some nice, thoughtful touches that made the trip even more memorable. The only issue was that the instructions provided by the company regarding the pick-up location could have been clearer: Mueang police station is a big, busy place and we didn’t know where we were supposed to wait (under the sign at the exit, as it turned out). Fortunately our guide, Tu, was very patient and conscienti
we had so much fun on the trip with Blue - thanks for sharing your deep knowledge and being so accommodating to our need!
it was a really educational experience and the guides were very knowledgeable, i loved getting to experience the culture of meditating with monks, walking around the pagodas for good luck and lighting candles for wishes. but i was disappointed with how rushed the actual wat pha lat part of the tour was. it was the part I was looking forward to most, but I only really got time to take photos and go. i didnt even get to walk around each temple. if you are wanting to visit wat pha lat at a slower pace so you get to really admire and observe each temple, I don't recommend this tour. the tour guide
