Full description

This is a 4.5-hour experience in Chiang Mai. It is run by Chiangmai Local Tour Guide, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples sit side by side across Japan and the etiquette differs slightly: at a shrine, bow at the torii, rinse hands and mouth at the water basin, then bow twice, clap twice, bow once at the hall; at a temple, no clapping, hands together, and incense if it is offered. Photography is fine outside and usually not inside halls. Zen meditation sessions, zazen, are taught at several Kyoto and Tokyo temples in 30 to 60 minute sittings with the posture explained; a shukubo temple stay adds the morning service and vegetarian shojin ryori. Shoes come off at every hall.

I had an amazing time on this tour. My tour guide Pon was very knowledgeable about the temples and history of Buddhism and monks, considering he was a monk for 20 years. The transport was timely and had strong air conditioning which was a relief when getting back in after walking around temples in the sun. Being able to see the monks chanting and join them in a meditation session was such a cool experience. I highly recommend this tour! 😊

Tu was the most incredible tour guide. He led us through a meditation next to a waterfall and it was such an amazing spiritual experience. It started raining when we got to the last temple and he was so thoughtful, going down and up 612 steps to grab us umbrellas while we listened to the monks chanting. But the best part was that he was so generous with sharing his experiences as a monk. Even when we were waiting out the rain, he had so much to share and so much knowledge about the temples that we were so engaged the whole time. If you can, request Tu. Having him as your tour guide is priceles

This was a brilliant tour. Really really helpful guides. Our guide Siphon, an ex monk, was extremely knowledgeable. He is really flexible can stay and talk about things if it has caught your interest or keep moving. He allowed the tour to go at the pace of the group but steered it when needed so we did not miss when chanting, or sun set took place. There were many things we would have walked past, but he pointed them out and explained their significance. We learnt so much. The temples themselves were stunning and really interesting, but massively enhanced by our guide. My wife finds walking ha

We joined this tour yesterday and were guided by Tom – and let me tell you: you absolutely have to ask for Tom! Tom used to be a monk and carries an incredible amount of knowledge about the culture, the rituals, and the history of the temples. His warm and calming presence inspired and touched us from the very beginning. The meditation and the ceremony were truly special – so authentic, powerful, and peaceful. Thanks to Tom, we didn’t just see everything; we truly understood and felt it. Thank you, Tom, for this wonderful experience. Your wisdom and your character left a deep impression on us,

It was a great experience, especially visiting the Wat Pha Lat Temple and meditating in the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple. The guide was excellent and very knowledgeable teaching us about Buddhism. An enriching cultural activity to do for an afternoon in Chiang Mai.

We absolutely loved this excursion. James, our guide, was both knowledgeable and fun. As a former monk, he offered fascinating insight into monastic life and the guidelines monks follow, which made the experience feel especially authentic. We visited three temples, each more beautiful than the last, and listening to the monks chanting was deeply moving. We were also fortunate to receive a blessing from a monk. Being in such a serene and peaceful environment as the sun was setting made the entire experience truly unforgettable.
