This is a 5-hour experience in Chiang Mai. It is run by Methavee Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Japanese craft classes are taught by practitioners who have usually done the craft for decades, and they teach it properly: calligraphy begins with how to hold the brush and grind the ink; pottery on the wheel produces a cup that is fired and posted to you weeks later; ikebana teaches the three-line structure of a Sogetsu or Ikenobo arrangement; indigo dyeing and washi papermaking are done in the workshops of the towns that specialise in them. Classes run one to three hours, materials are included, and most welcome children with a parent.

Had an incredible time with Thai Silk Village. We started out with a demonstration of each of the steps of making silk - looking at the larvae and the cocoons, then we got to try out extracting the silk into a thread, and we were shown how the dying process works. The demonstrations took around 30 minutes. We then sat down at some very simple manual looms at the end of the workshop. We chose the fabric colours for our craft and were shown how to work the loom. We were given options to make crafts ranging from a table setting (~1.5h of weaving) to a full 180cm scarf (4-5h of weaving). Lunch was
