Full description
This is a 3-hour experience in Chiang Mai. It is run by Secret Food Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Japanese food tours work because the best places are small, unmarked and full of regulars, and a guide who orders for you opens them. An izakaya crawl covers yakitori, sashimi, karaage and the local pours of sake, shochu and highballs across three or four counters in an evening; a ramen walk explains the broths, tonkotsu, shoyu, miso and shio, and the regional styles. Most places seat eight to twelve and tours run six to eight guests for that reason. Vegetarians should say so when booking, because dashi stock is fish and hidden in almost everything; halal-certified options exist but are fewer.
The price covers Walking tour, Guide, Banana leaf sticky rice, Chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce and Larb kua. It does not cover Hotel pickup and drop-off and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Secret Food Tours sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Secret Food Tours before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

The tour was amazing!! I highly recommend Varisa as a guide! You'll not leave feeling hungry!
Our guide was very lovely and friendly and knowledgeable. She adjusted well to having just two of us on the tour. She shared lots of information about the area, Northern Food, and living in Chiang Mai. We tasted many delicious local dishes in 5 different venues. Highly recommended.
It was great. Warat imteoduces us to several restaurants and dishes we would have otherwise never tried. He also taught us about the local history and traditions.
Extremely nice tour with Warat, with lots of interesting information about Chiang Mai and especially about the food. Many thanks, Warat!
Alles 100% perfect.
Sehr empfehlenswert! 😊
