Four hours in the desert outside Abu Dhabi, available as a morning or an evening run, which is a choice worth thinking about rather than defaulting on.

The morning safari is cooler, quieter and better for photographs of the dunes themselves, with the light low and the sand ridged and untouched. The evening one gives you sunset and the camp atmosphere afterwards. Both include the same core: dune bashing in a 4WD Land Cruiser with the tyres down, sand boarding, and a stop at a working camel farm with a short ride.

Unlimited water and soft drinks travel in the vehicle, which between June and September is not a nicety.

The camel farm is the part that separates this from the standard run — it is a working farm rather than a roadside photo stop, and seeing how the animals are actually kept is more interesting than the ride itself.

⚠️ Dune bashing is deliberately rough. Anyone pregnant, with back or neck problems, or prone to motion sickness should say so at booking; the driver will take a mild line and nobody is obliged to do the hard version. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Abu Dhabi are included.

We knew it would be great, but great isn't enough; it was simply AMAZING. Everything was perfectly organized, every detail mattered, there were plenty of attractions, no crowds, and our few hours at the camp passed without a moment's boredom. The shows were fascinating, and the fire show was like a performance for an international band. Our driver, Sam, was incredibly kind and professional; we couldn't have chosen better.
