The national museum of the UAE, on Saadiyat Island, telling the country's story from its earliest archaeology through to the federation and the present.
The building is Norman Foster's, and the five steel towers rising from it are shaped as falcon wings — a reference to Sheikh Zayed's own falconry and to the thermal chimneys that draw hot air out of the galleries below. It is worth walking around the outside before going in.
Inside, the collection runs chronologically: Neolithic finds from the peninsula, the Bronze Age trade with Mesopotamia and the Indus, the pearling economy that built these coastal towns, and then the twentieth century and the founding of the union.
For anyone who has spent three days looking at towers and shopping malls, this is the building that explains what was here before them — and it makes the Heritage Village and the old forts elsewhere in the city read very differently afterwards.
Your ticket covers the galleries, the exhibitions and Al Masar Garden. Accessible routes, lifts and seating run throughout.
Allow two hours. It sits within walking distance of the Louvre, and the two together make a full Saadiyat day.

I visited this museum mostly because of its stunning architecture and I was not disappointed. The whole building make a huge impression! Highly recommend for all architecture enthusiasts and geeks!
Extraordinary building, breathtaking architecture and touching and very modern exhibitions. We spent almost three hours there, including coffee break and walking on the roof of the building. Also garden in front is stunning and interesting. Surely this museum will win any architectural and museum award this year!
Graham was helpful in the sale of gifts Second floor was misleading the direction you had to walk through the exhibitions. Needs to be more clearer arrow markers on floor would help.
The architecture of the museum is breathtaking! The history of the country is beautifully laid out. Secret tip: have lunch at the restaurant - it’s world class for a very good price! Also, for little kids, you can borrow a stroller if the little ones get tired.

Shammad was an excellent guide. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. The building is spectacular. The only thing I would suggest is to provide contact info for the guide. The meeting point is very crowded and it would help in connecting with the guide.
