Full description

An abra is the wooden boat that has crossed Dubai Creek for decades, and this puts one on the modern coastline instead — past the Palm, Atlantis, Bluewaters and Ain Dubai.

The contrast is the whole idea. These boats were built for a working creek in a pearling town and here one of them is chugging past a resort shaped like a palace and the world's largest observation wheel. It is the cheapest way onto this stretch of water and, oddly, one of the more memorable.

Open sides, low to the water, and slow enough to look properly rather than photograph in passing.

Do not expect a yacht. There is no bar, no shade beyond a canopy, and no swimming — it is a boat ride, priced as one.

Best in the last hour of light or after dark, when Ain Dubai and the Atlantis façade are lit and the abra's own lights are on. In the middle of a summer day it is hot and exposed and the same trip is much less pleasant.

Life jackets are provided and no experience of anything is required.

Definitely recommend this. We took the ride at 5.p.m so we enjoed both daylight and night views. The guide was very nice, made us photos for free. We got a bottles of water.

We ended up with effectively a private tour as the boat ran with just the two of us. Very relaxing with several photo stops where the guides were more than happy to take photographs for us. A great way to spend a couple of hours and see the sights of Dubai from the water
